Introduction to Deathmatch
Deathmatch can pretty much be defined in one sentence. Find your opponent and kill him by any means possible. Defining it any further would keep the term from being general enough to cover all things that uses the term "deathmatch".
Deathmatch was first introduced by DooM over modem and LAN play. It became extremely popular almost instantly, and many first person shooters have had deathmatch support ever since. There have even been games created that are only deathmatch specific.
There are many games with deathmatch, but this site is specifically for DooM Deathmatch, because we feel that deathmatching the old school way is the best. The concept of deathmatching in DooM is to find your opponent, and kill him or her, while he or she does the same. This is done by finding a weapon, grabbing some ammo, etc., while trying to keep yourself alive, and scoring as many points (or "frags" as most people call it) as possible. Sound simple enough? Good, because it is. However, being good at it is a different story, and getting connected over the net isn't and easy task for most newcomers.
Understanding what deathmatch is is not the difficult part. The most difficult thing is getting used to your controls and learning how to connect to a game over the internet. Feel free to browse through all the help sections and learn how to get yourself started. That's what they're all there for. For a brief list of the help section, check below:
