Where to start...Oh yes, first time I played doom. It was a rainy day, I
remember it because it was my birthday and you sort of remember that sort of
thing. I got a brand new, damn near $400 setup for the PSX, that includes
games. The first game I see on the pile, Doom. I got excited because I
never got to play doom, just heard the gory stories from my friends. They
would get all serious talking about it like they accually went to hell
telling there story in a low almost whispering voice, funny stuff. I
turned it on, I chose Ultimate Doom just from the name "ULTIMATE". It was
around 3 when the birthday shindig was over and while everybody was eating
cake I was gripping that PSX controler like it meant the life of me. The
rain was blowing agenst the side of the house with hail stones banging off
the windows, I had the lights off and the sound blairing, I was standing
up for atleast an hour because I was at THE level, Tower of Babel. I
couldnt beat the cyberdemon lord. Or "that bigass thing that shoots rockets
and keeps killing me" as I refered to it. It was late, REAL LATE. My
palms were sweatty and my eyes burning. I finally hit the hay. That was
definately the best birthday ever. I diddnt leave my room for a long while
playing that game over and over again. Even to this day, I turn my PC
speakers up all the way and crank the base tube up with the lights off and
play like a savage. And now I know why that closed circle of friends would
get all serious and tell there 'war stories'.
