It all happended like 4-6 years ago. I got a game called DOOM. It was
shareware, you could play 1 episode and I was hooked from the very first
second i played the damn game! I didn't know what the hell DM or Co-Op
was so i just played the one and only episode over and over again. Then
I heard from some guys that you could play AGAINST EACH OTHER or TEAM UP
AGAINST ALL THE ENEMIES! I was thinking like "Damn what the hell! This
must ROCK" And it sure did, we called each other modems and started to
play, or at least tried. We didn't know excactly how do get the
multiplayer thing working between our modems. After a while, it worked
and we played like, forever or something :). After a couple of weeks
playing DM and Co-Op there was a contest in DOOM. And boy was i suprised
when i saw it... YOU COULD PLAY FOUR PLAYER IF YOU HAD A NETWORK! My
neighbour and I got a 150m Coaxial cable, and told our fathers to fix
some networkcards and set it all up, they put the cable between out
houses, which are almost 150m from each other. But we couldn't play it.
Something was wrong :(. We forgot all about network playing and called
each other by modem to play. After some time, we got the full version of
DOOM and after an other while, we got the #1 game. Yes, DOOM II.
SuperShot Gun, were we impressed or what ? DAMN!!!!! We play DM via
modem for another FOREVER :). After another while, my friend saw some
files called NE2000.COM, IPXODI.COM and LSL.COM on a computer that
belonged to another friends mother's computer, which was hooked up on a
network on her work. We loaded the files on our computer and worked all
day long trying to get DOOM 2 working! And then after a lot of hours
work, we didn't what the fuck we were doing, it finally worked. We
couldn't believe it! We played for 10 weeks in a row. We had a lot of
friends coming over and battle against each other, but me and my
neighbour always won. We were pretty equal to each other, but we crushed
the other guys :). We only had one more step to go, before DOOM NIRVANA.
Yes. It happened. Some friends got their computers to our house and my
neighbours house, and we succeeded in hooking them up, so we played 4
players in DOOM 2 DM!!!!!!! We all loved the game, and we still do. DOOM
2 MAP01, I think i have played that level at least 1000 times. We played
that level like hell, and we discovered all the tricks, like running and
holding the strafe button pressed down, would make you run faster :),
and all other shit! We played DOOM 2, then my neighbour got bored of it,
(that was after 2-3 years). Since then I have difficulties in finding
people who will play DOOM 2 with me. Everyone plays Quake, a game i
think SUCKS! If you played, (like I have) DOOM and DOOM 2 before you
played Quake DM, you know what i'm talking about. Every single one with
a computer plays Quake now, and that's very annoying! DOOM days are
over, i'm sad to say it, not over completely, but things will never be
the same ...
And I really miss it.
