HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

::walks up to the innocent bystandard and blows his fucking head off::

A mod is what happens when I stick my dick up your ass and it comes out your fucking mouth!
actually, no.

A mod is a modified part of a game that you D/L or install and it changes gameplay. A map is NOT a mod unless it modifies the core rules of the game or modifies some sounds, music, or graphics.

A "Total Conversion" is just another word for a really big mod.

Examples:
You change the revenant so that he looks like he has a knife in his hand... this is a mod.

You modify the cyberdemon to have 10000 hitpoints instead of 4000... this is a mod.

You replace the machinegun with an m-16... this is a mod.

You make a map replacing "map10" of the doom2 wadfile... this is NOT a mod unless you had some new textures in the map, new sounds for enemies/scenery, new music, or new graphics for mosnters or the statusbar (or the intermission/menu screens).

"Mod" is short for "modification".

Experiment a little with the logic center of your brain before a zombie eats it.

MOD: Short for Modification, usually used when referring to a project. "So-n-so's MOD is almost complete!"

TC: Short for Total Conversion. A Total Conversion is a type of mod that changes as much as the game content as possible such as music, arsenal, enemies, levels and graphics.

PC: Short for Partial Conversion. A Partial Conversion only focuses on a few key aspects of the mod. Darkening 2 would fall into this category as it changes music, levels and graphics only (Nonetheless it's fucking amazing!). This term isn't used much as people usually refer to it's specific content instead, such as mission pack or graphics wad.
