We all have to do it sometime...or was that just me?

The game will probably hit shelves on mid 2002. By Nvidia´s "one product each 6 months" market strategy, GeForce4 (or whatever they wanna call it), with tile-based rendering and who knows what else, should be available for that time.
The GeForce3´s know costs $400 on US, thanks to a recent marketing approach. Just take a look at the price of GeForce2 Ultra, and remember the old price when the ELSA Gladiac was released : over $400. Now you can get a nice GeForce2 at low prices.
If you´re impressed by the 20 passes, remember that those are just on Dot3 bumpmapping and pixel shader compatible video cards. TNT class and GeForce 1 won´t work with this engine with the nifty effects going on. Even the fillrate limits the performance.

Well, only four passes reduces my system to a crawl right now. <sigh>.
Still, this game will probably be a bit different in that most of it's 3D proccessing will be done in the video card, so that it will REALLY be like having a two proccessor system. I think at the moment, with non-TnL cards out there, most games are designed to sort of pass geometry to the drivers, which in turn, simply put them back into normal system memory, where they again have to be worked on, perhaps in a differnt thread. The end result of this is that most of the 3D rendering is still not being done concurrantly, but simply in an interleaved fashion. It still takes the total time of the world simulation + geometry transformation + sending the transformed data to the actual video hardware rasteriser part.
Or something like that...
-- Cheers everyone EsH
