I asked a question on quake3world forums:
"Paul, what will we see at Quakecon 2001 and will we see something related to Doom?"
I got the following answer:
"If certain wags are to be believed, all we could possibly hope to see is Counterstrike." "If there are going to be any "surprises" at QuakeCon, expect to see them in formal Public Relations announcements ... not secrets leaked by me on a Q3W forum."

Well, even if id doesn't release new screenshots, videos or a tech demo, John Carmack will still give plenty of new information in his annual speech.
