Can somebody puh-LEEZE make something that works better than WinTex? Something that isn't so bug-infested, that isn't so rigid, and that can make tall textures? It blows my mind that people have been making WAD's for so long and we're still stuck with such a crude program. Whoever makes something that works better will be my new hero.

Wintex is just fine for Doom wad editing... I've been using it for over three years now.

Try Deepsea. It's primarily a level editor, but it also has extensive Wintex-like features.
The level editor part is VERY limited in the shareware version, but there shouldn't be any limits at all on the resource editing.
Also, http://www.paci-fist.net/doom / has a program for creating tall textures.
