Anyone know if its legal to use some sprites and sounds from other games like strife + hexen in a mod, and then make the mod available to download?

I've seen many other wads like that. If you were selling it it wouldn't be legal. But otherwise there shouldn't be any problem

Even if you do not sell it it's not legal. However, these games are old, and IIRC the people of Raven said that they do not care when people use resources of Hexen and Heretic (as long as it is not sold, of course).
