Ok it comes down to this---
In a doom game, multiplayer, is there any way to make a seamless ... seemless.. seme..no..whatever fake room over room so that it is impossible for a user not on the map screen to notice?
Those silent teleports are very obvious to the player not teleporting. Poof!

Seamless... had it right the first time ;)
You could just use EDGE or Legacy to make real 3D floors.
As for faking the effect, I remember SkullTag having some sort of advanced rendering system that will allow something like that to be totally faked but work in multiplayer anyways. Not sure if it's implemented yet or not.

I requires zdoom, but what you do is use the fake room over room trick(map 31 of requiem) to build the "look" of a room over a room, then you build a bunch of objects and place them with a z position of whatever the floor height of the second floor will be. Hard to do but it can be done.
