First of all I am totally new at making my own doom levels, but I would like to learn how to make levels of my own doing.
Could anyone tell me of a good windows based editor that is good for a newbie?

I recommend WadAuthor, you can download it here:

It's Windows based, simple but powerful, with an excellent tutorial/help file for beginners.

Thanks for the great direction on using an editor. I have downloaded it and so far it seems to be really informative for a beginner like me.
