Well,my faves are
DooM legacy-For ease of use,excellent graphics,powerful 3D features (beating even edge here now),Open gl mode (FINALLY removing the bugs!),the launcher and john romero likes it!
ZDoom-Cool graphics,has working scripting (I dont do the scripting thing,but i dont mind playing wads that use it,like tei tenga),Supports various cool features and is usually the port of choice for really good level desingners
EDGE-It may crash a lot,its 3D may no longer be the best..But its various cool display features are fun (red/blue 3D glasses mode!-awesome!) and DDF is a cool idea (If only it was implemented in WORKING ports...)

J DOOM and DOOM Legacy!
J DOOM is just awsome and DOOM Legacy is just as good.I like Z DOOM as well,but it's not as good as J DOOM and DOOM Legacy.

If you have a 3D card: JDoom.
Unfortunately, most WADs use more advanced features than that offers and require ZDoom. ZDoom is the granddaddy port, runs 95% of the levels in existance. EDGE is also a powerful port, but I only keep it around for the levels that require it to run - not very many, but the ones that do take advantage of it's features make it well worth having. Doom Legacy is the final one you would need, as there are some good Legacy-specific levels floating around, and many more to come.
Basically, just run everything with ZDoom unless it requires something else.

ZDoom by far. BOOM just totally sucks. The only reason I got it was to run the Ghostbusters WAD.

Oh, and we use ZDoom.
The sloped foors and ceilings in the 1.23 betas look very nice, BTW. (Had a quick look at the Whirlwind DM map.) I have some interesting map ideas I'd like to try out, using lots of those...

I think zdoom is the best because it has the best feel to the original doom. It also adds many features that add to editing etc etc. But then again, If legacy felt right, it would be the best.

zdoom is good manly coze off csdoom and skulltag and dommserv and zdeamon, if zdoom didnt have none of those i probly would pick legacy,

I like ZDoom because of it's tight integration with Windows... it's just like any other Windows application. Legacy is nowhere near as tight, and I simply don't like it's interface nearly as much.
The best thing about ZDoom is running it in a 640 by 480 window with double x and y detail. It just looks amazing, I haven't played a Doom game with 3D accelleration in a really long time. No need.
Unlike JDoom, it's easy to hop from window to window. I can chat and frag at the same time with no difficulty. I love how the cursor returns when the console comes down. =)
Now if it just had Hexen support and the option to have the console Windowed (UT, FAKK2) it would be damn near perfect.

Well, not when I'm seriously sitting down to game. However, during long downloads and slow chats it's nice to fire up a game of ZDoom and be able to keep an eye on everything else going on in Windows. =)
