Review: Hate (To live is to die)

I was searching for wad to deathmatch against the Cajun-Bot with the other day, when I found this little gem. It's a vaguely gothic level, but it doesn't owe too much of an obvious debt to Gothic DM. I liked the layout of the level, which took place in a stone and metal building and a central 'garden'. I like outdoor areas in DooM, so this catered nicely to my personal tastes.

The wad includes a couple of new graphics, including a very creepy title screen (that looks like it's been lifted from Wishmaster), and that oldy-but-goldy, the marine face with shades. If anything, I think this was a little bit of mistake - whilst the sunglasses face looked amusing in other wads, it nearly spoils the mood of this level.

Gameplaywise, it's a lot of fun to deathmatch around, and because it's quite small there's a high frag factor, and you don't have to wait too long too find someone to shoot ( as you can see in the screenshot), which can be a problem in some bigger deathmatch levels, like the later gothic levels.

All in all, this is a lot of fun, and I'll try and find more wads by this author.
