Description: This is my first DOOM-Level. It has been developed with DEU 5.1 and 5.2 on a 486DX2/66. It has only been tested for single play. You start near the properly locked prison. Something strange has happened there and the warders who managed to escape won't let you in (this should set you thinking). Find the key and ....

Base: New level from scratch
Build time: About 70 hours total
Editor(s) used: DEU 5.1 and 5.2, BSP 1.1x
Bugs: Small errors in the map, you might not even notice it. Sometimes it seems that you are shooting against a wall but there is none. Projectiles are exploding 'on the way' and do not reach their goal. This happens only in the central courtyard and the room east to it.

This is from June 1994. It's a castle-style map (although the building is more of a blockhouse). It starts off with an asinine bit whereby you have to press all along the walls of the blockhouse in order to get the yellow key, and suffers from too many unentertaining puzzles, but there's a decent lot of monsters and at least it had some imagination. NB spiral maze, and seems to be the same as id=416.x

Awful start; you would never find the yellow key without loading the map into an editor (you have to flick an unmarked switch in a mass of anonymous wall). Awful level, it's basically a masterclass in STARTAN. There are flashes of competence but it's all too fiddly and cramped to be any fun.x

This is really a mixed bag. While there are several problems (random architecture, impossible-to-find secrets and keys needed to progress, a stupid pillar puzzle, and a confusing layout) there are also many cool things, such as the very inventive staircase switch -- I've never seen anything quite like it! -- and some nice traps and fights. All in all, I'd say it's good enough to warrant a play-through once... just make sure you study the map in an editor first. --2/5x
