Before I tell you the story behind this wad I would like to point out that I'm still an amatuer mapper, and would like your advice on how to improve my work. This mapset uses various ZDoom effects such as deep water, slopes, mirrors, and has new sprites, graphics and sounds. It obviously isn't the next Scythe 2, but it's good for 30 minutes of fun.
RUINS takes place slightly before the events of Ultimate Doom. An ancient civilization was discovered buried under the rainforest, and the technology inside was to advanced to be made by humans of the era. This fact left researchers baffled, but as soon as the experiments on Phoboss went wrong demons started to appear in the ruins. Now it is quite obvious who built this civilization. Now you and the other UAC marines must keep this evil from reaching surface. |

What Joe needs more than anything is creativity: it isn't enough to explore "ruins", it needs to feel like the player is in the author's own world. Take for example Doom 2's "The Pit": there is a pit. But in RUINS, there are just brown locations and nothing memorable. If you could think up more ideas (like earthquakes that block off areas), then you'd surely make better wads. | x |
