The Factory is a single level experience for Zdoom.
It is what I would consider, a partial conversion. I say this because although
everything isn't replaced, It has a new level, some new graphics, and a deh
file which allows the dead player to be shot and killed.
It is a pretty straight forward level, with some fun zdoom effects.
Also, the graphics that have been changed are actually improved over ID Software's
originals. The shotgun now releases used shells after you fire, which is nice.
Skill levels are implemented (read the skill level descriptions, very funny) and in
my opinion the few zdoom effects are very well done, such as the conveyor belt.
You start off facing multiple sargents, and you see a dead body go down a conveyor
belt. To the left there is a super shotgun so waste the sargents. My suggestion
is to stand on the conveyor belt and ride it out. Of course frag the cacodemon
halfway through the belt ride, then there is a chaingun dude or two at the end.
Go up the stairs and you will see two demons. To the left in that room, hit the switch
and then step on the spot uncovered in the middle. Once you get the key you can teleport
back to the start and enter the one door. But beware, demons will follow you.
JUMP OFF THE LEFT OF THE BRIDGE!!! You have to. Then, walk into the green nukage wall
untill you find a switch. HIT IT!
You can go back on the bridge, but watch out for ghosts. Hit both switches in the green
room and then continue. Be warned, there are three arachnatrons in that room.
Exit out the door.
The level makes for some good gameplay, but would be much better if there were
a few more levels.
I like the zdoom scripting included, and you have to be aware
of little details to beat this level. There is one new enemy, the ghost, which
replaces the SS Nazi. He is faster, stronger, invisible, can walk through some
walls, and sometimes floats. I LOVE THE GRAPHIC IMPROVEMENTS. It needs another
level or two.
The author has some talent for editing, and I would recommend
you download the file.
Overall: 6/10
