20032202 -- More drivel...

"Wir fahren, fahren, fahren auf der Autobahn" - Kraftwerk

It is an utterly depressing fact that I've done bugger-all these last few months, but now I'm getting into gear again, as my review of Steven Clark's "Fragport" is finally up; see the reviews page for details. Also see the same page for a few others. This brings the total to 34; I shall stop when I get to 50, as I'm finding it harder and harder to write reviews these days owing to time constraints. No.32 has been corrected as well, now its score is 88%.

Plutonia II news will be coming up shortly on the Plutonia II site.

Regular readers may remember that some time (18+ months) ago I announced the start of a 6-level set called "The Lost Week". These same readers probably wondered what became of it. Fear not, it's still going strong, even more so now as I've done the first three maps in the last few weeks, and the others are forthcoming. Screenshots below of these first three maps, one per row. (I might add that these screenshots are not 100% up-to-date.) As with my other productions, gameplay and ćsthetics are well catered-for.

Other news: you know how the original Doom music has lots of near-plagiarism (AC/DC's "Big Gun" in E2M1, Pantera songs etc.)? You can chalk up another one on the list: the E2M6 music is amazingly similar to bits of the last movement of Bartók's Music for Strings, Piano and Celesta. There's a .MID file of it here (157K); the section in question starts at about 3:27.

In current news, I'm making the music of Thomas van der Velden's mini-project "Harmony"; it is probably the most 'modernist' stuff I've written to date. I've also taken my A-level modular exams, and like all my contemporaries I'm really stressed out about it and taking lots of stress medication and ready to kill myself... erm, yes. :) I saw it as a holiday with a few exams thrown in. And last week I got the results - a real mixture by all accounts. There are five pass grades - A to E - and I got at least one of each! I was left with two 'A's and three 'B's.

I will be re-taking some of these in the next few months, on account of my high ambitions for higher education (I'm applying to Sidney Sussex College at Cambridge, you see) and I will await the retakes intrepidly (not at the moment, as I won't be taking them till January.) But now it's onward and upward....

That's all from me this time, folks. Bye bye!
