September 1999 News
   30th September 1999

Vindictive - Linguica

Everyone's favorite unreleased megawad Alien Vindicta has an update with more times from the demo gods who have been able to actually play the maps and laugh at the rest of us. Also, they mention that Kim Malde is a part of the project, which is surprising (for those not in the know, Kim Malde is one of Doom mapping's best-kept secrets).

Covaro The Mighty - Linguica

Covaro has updated yet again (unfortunately, not on this page) with stuff about his new zip drive, new threads, a new desk, and a new car! Well, not the last one... also there's some news about Crucified Dreams to tantalize and titillate your senses. You'll want this one.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • The coder of Winwad has been busy with work and the like and so has had very little time to work on the WAD editor. As such he has decided to release the source to Winwad. I can't tell if this means the end of the project on his part or just a source release, so I can't say whether this is a good announcement or a bad one.

   29th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Chaos Crew has a short little update about how the project continues to trudge along despite delays, and also some screenshots of the CoD SmashDM level have been uploaded.
  • Fanatic has posted another DDF error to the appropriate page, and also reminds us all about the wonders of frequently backing up. Backing up is good kiddies, remember that one!

COMPET-News - Linguica

COMPET-N has posted a new batch of super-fast demos for all to download and marvel at. There's the standard collection of miscellaneous single-level escapades, but also a new monster demo: an entire-Doom2-run in Ultraviolence, killing all monsters and finding all secrets! It's 2:25 in length, and is only the third such demo ever made. Good job Vincent Catalaa!

The Legacy - Linguica

The Doom Legacy Homepage has an update by Thierry announcing that Fab (of "Fab & Boris" fame) has stopped his work on Doom Legacy, leaving Boris, Thierry, and Bell Kin, who is busily working away on the Linux version of Legacy. The team has decided to stop "feature creep" and is now focusing on stabilizing the existing code rather than adding in new stuff. Also, there's something about the possibility of versions for BeOS and Mac.

ZDoomage - Linguica

The ZDoom Homepage has a short update by Randy Heit detailing his work on porting ZDoom over to Linux. Currently, the port has working graphics, sound, MOD music, mouse, keyboard, and networking, but Randy assures us that much work has yet to be done.

CovWorld - Linguica

Covaro has another lengthy update talking about Undernet, responses to yesterday's update, the State Of The Doom Community, and possibly moving out (good boy).

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Forgot to mention this the other day... SmashDM has an update talking about new Mario and Ash skins under development for SmashDM, the possibilities for more arenas with themes such as the jungle and The Matrix. Oh yeah, and a SmashDM test has been uploaded! If you're on a decent-enough connect to ZDoom over the internet, try out SmashDM with some of your friends, or perhaps enemies.

   28th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has posted RageDM 1.1! If you played and liked RageDM, or even if you didn't, go get this sucker right now! Also, they've updated their source ports page with more useful information.
  • Securitron has an update talking about the immense number of levels currently in progress, and also has posted an application form, so the masses can apply to work on Securitron E3 all they want.
  • Twice Risen has a moderate update talking about all sorts of things including communal projects as well as a lack of time to work on the PC.
  • The Ghostbusters Doom homepage has a short update saying that the maker will have a bit more time to work on the TC after October 8th, so look for more updates then.

When Covie Met Stuffie - Linguica

After a long period of silence, Covaro has uploaded a new homepage with a nice long update all about the current state of affairs in regards to Doomworld, his life, Crucified Dreams, Mockery, and more. Go read.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Doom Millennium has posted a list of their PC's levels, with a surprsingly large number completed (all but 7, in fact).

   27th September 1999

OpenGL Legacy Stuff - Linguica

The OpenGL Doom Legacy Homepage has a moderate update concerning the status of (what else?) OpenGL Doom Legacy. The project is in a debug state currently with a final version coming ASAP.

Prower Power - Linguica

prower has updated his land of the fruit juices saying that he's gotten some replies to his recent update about making a community megawad, but is still looking for more people who would be willing to participate.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Doom Anomaly has a short update apologizing for the lack of updates, which seems kind of contradictory to me. Anyways, there's a bit of news about the project, but also word that it's temporarily put on hold.
  • Doom Millennium has posted 2 screenshots of Map31 of the project, as well as a screenie showing off a new monster entitled "Green Slimey Bastard." Sounds like fun!
  • Hempmaster Sir Robin has updated his Doom Castle with reviews of Reunion 01, Escape, Legana Caravan Park, and Cataboom.
  • Afterglow has posted 3 new texture WADs: CWB 1, CWB 2, and Wally.

   26th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has a nice meaty update about the status of QDOOM, including notes about DDF, graphics, and the progress of levels, which sound distinctly un-Quakeish but still very cool. He's waiting on the engine to support multiple floors as he has big plans for multi-level castles and the like. Sounds awesome to me.
  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource finally got their giant-size Rage DM 1.1 preview online! Included are 16 new screenshots (a large part of that covers the 2 bonus levels included in the release) and a mini-interview with series creator Mike Tawney. They are also planning to release Rage DM 1.1 on the site later this week.

Unholy Crap - Linguica

Unholy Software has a point-by-point listing of what is done and what isn't in "Nimrod," their ongoing project. There's quite a bit of work done, but still a lot to go...

Hexen Happenings - Linguica

The Official Hexen Fanclub sent word that they've moved their webpage to XOOM after a spate with Yahoo.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Afterglow plans to have a texture WAD or two released tomorrow, and also has a moderately long rant regarding a bunch of different Doom projects currently going on.

   25th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Skulltag has a sizable update regarding deathmatch levels: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
  • SLIGE build 474 is out, featuring "fixed buffer-overrun that would cause the DOS version to trap; removed filelength() call, which isn't standard C; restored the 'LIGHT' attribute on various flats, which was accidentally removed in 464 so SLIGE knows about ceiling lights again; finally fixed the oddity where a window grating could look completely different when viewed from the other side; added a 'night' mode, a 'dim' mode, and a few other lighting tweaks; added a few more within-level correlations, like 'no doors' and 'wide links.'"
  • Looks like The Parallel Team has been busy writing articles in Finnish as opposed to making Doom levels! Ahem! Anyway, congrats to PennyWise for getting a Doom article published. Bring some sheep back into the fold!
  • The Tool-Assisted Demos homepage has posted a new batch of Final Doom and Hell Revealed nightmare runs, including a complete run of The Plutonia Experiment in a little over 1:11.
  • Ninja Doom has apparently been visited by the ".soon." fairy. Meaning that the website is down with an exciting and provocative message in its place. Don't we all love waiting?

Grape Ape - Linguica

prower's place has a big ole rant about how there are a few too many Doom projects going on and he feels that efforts should be pooled to create another Memento Mori-ish megawad. Of course, he says it with much more detail and reasoning, so jet on over there to read it yourself, dammit!

   24th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • DoomGL has posted the latest batch of models by Edmundo Bordeu, which features the spiderdemon, mancubus, arachnotron, and trooper, as well as a lot of miscellaneous odds and ends.

Another Skin - Linguica

The Skin Connection has updated with another submitted skin, this time a bona fide piece of crap. Man, I've seen some crap-looking skins but the sheer crappiness of this one takes the cake.

The sad part is that this will probably send over more visitors than if I called it the greatest skin ever, but what are you gonna do...

Heretic Look Back - Linguica

3DGN has posted a article with a look back at Heretic, that fantasy Doom-engine game with the tomes and the chickens. Thanks SailorScout.

   23rd September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has released this month's "WAD of the Month" entitled Boo.wad. Made by "DM4ish" creator Aardappel, Boo works under any Doom port including Doom2.exe, and even includes a node table for the Doombot to kick your ass with. Boo-yah! Ahem.
  • The Skulltag site is finally debugged and running in Netscape, so go over and check it out, will ya?

New SMMU Soon - Linguica

Fraggle has updated saying that the implementation of FraggleScript into SMMU is going quite well, and a new FraggleScript-enabled version on SMMU should be forthcoming in a week or so.

REoL STUFF - Linguica

The REoL TOUGH Death Site has announced that the release party for their latest level, "Bullets Up Your Ass" (which can conveniently be referred to as BUYA or "boo-yah"), is scheduled for October 2 at 11:30 PM EDT. Boo-yah! Ahem.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • SmashDM still needs your skins and arenas, dammit! In other news, the engine is coming along nicely with the first multiplayer test run going great. Darkfang has removed the limit for frames on special moves so contributors are no longer limited to 3 frames per move. Also, he's posted some neato screenshots of all the arenas which have been submitted to date. Keen!

   22nd September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic is a little wired after a car-horn mishap, and also says that QDOOM is up to version 0.54, thanks to new stuff going on with DOSDoom which he refuses to tell us. Man, this better be good.
  • New beta over at DoomServ of the online game-finding service, with some new features which aren't explicitly mentioned, but I'll assume are there.

Ouch - Linguica

I got this little amalgam of depression from Rick Clark today:
I have bad news. I was working on my computer today when my computer literally blew up (as in catching fire). I don't know if it was a power surge or what, but I am dead in the water. I can check my email through a friends PC, but all my project work may be gone.

So, as of now, all projects I was working on are, best case, postponed indefinitely, or worst case canceled. I am not sure if I can salvage anything and because of some personal circumstances, I may be without a PC for a while.

I won't be able to accept any Survival demos at this time. If one of the demo sites could pick this up and make it a part of their site, I hereby give permission to use all the demos and related items for the Survival wad. The work on DTNC, Survival 2, Wildpack 2 and the updated VPack is stopped. If I cannot recover anything, I doubt that I will be finishing them. I am just glad I finished my SmashDM arenas before this happened. One bright spot.

This is a major set back for me and very depressing. I just hope I can get back online soon.

It was those fires of hellspawn from the hard drive, I tell you... however, this is a Very Bad Thing for Rick, and once again illustrates how important frequent backups are.

Alien Vindicta - Linguica

Although I haven't been mentioning this project very much, Alien Vindicta has been pumping out those updates like there's no tomorrow, with all sorts of news on how the level editing is progressing as well as the demo exploits of the beta-testers (I must once again reiterate how weird it is to have demo contests for an unreleased WAD).

EdTV - Linguica

ViolentEd has posted a new review of one of King REoL's maps, which is less than complementary to say the least (no flame wars please).

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Doom, Damnit has finally updated after an eternity without any funny Doom news spoofs! I was going into withdrawal!
  • Doom Millennium has a nic meaty update saying that the Millennium engine now has no less than seven new monsters in place, complete with new AI (oooh). Also, there's stuff about the new weapons in the PC, as well as some talk about rain effects and 2 new pictures of that huge-ass "Skynet" level.

   21st September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has posted a substantial update covering a new DM map review of Pit (by Mike "Biff" Blakely), and some additions to their player's list. They're also planning a RageDM 1.1 preview and anticipate their September DM map of the month release to be very soon.
  • Skulltag, lovingly known as "CTF on crack," has redesigned its page and hosted posted a poll for everyone to vote on. Yes! Go vote on it now! *rubs hands together connivingly*

Unholy Moly - Linguica

Unholy Software has posted info about no less than 11 new MIDIs which have been created expressly for the project, as well as some other general info about the leader's future plans and more.

Gosh DANG It - Linguica

The Public DANG has posted more demos for its ongoing speedfighter contest, and talks a little bit about huge-ass Doom levels and German action games.

The Page Of Doom - Linguica

The Page Of Doom is pleading for people to send in links for his little lonely links page. Come on, people! As if you don't have one minute to spare! For shame!

   20th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Those dirty cheaters over at the Tool-Assisted Demos homepage have posted another round of insanely fast cheated demos of Final Doom by Peo Sjoblom.
  • WolfenDoom has posted a new skin for use with Doom Legacy.
  • Ricrob has a short update as he settles into his new home, saying that he's restocked his FTP section with those hard-to-find or not-on-CDROM files, has fixed up the Ultimate Doom section, and is working on a ZDoom section.

COMPET-News - Linguica

You know it, you love it: COMPET-N, your stop for kickass Doom demos of all flavors, has updated with a nice hefty load of .LMPs to wade through, including a new trick on Map16 which has dropped the UV/NM record times down to a crazy 12 seconds. That's crazy, I tell you! Also, there's a handful of longer runs, with some Doom and Doom 2 episode 100/100 runs all recorded. Finally, there's a bunch of new single-level NM100S runs, and a question about perhaps making a newer, harder COMPET-N category (these guys are nuts).

Demo Page Number Three - Linguica

These Doom demo-making guys are joined at the hip, I swear. Rounding out the triumvirate of Doom speedrunning sites updated today is The Public DANG, with a slew of new demos to watch from all different categories, including some Heretic speedrunning demos.

Realm Of Chaos - Linguica

The Realm Of Chaos has posted six new screenshots from level 3 of their upcoming Ultimate Doom episode "PHOBIA."

Survival Of The Fittest - Linguica

Rick Clark has posted a new demo for his ZDoom WAD "Survival" by Adam Williamson, who seems to have a streak for the fanatical, that reaches no less than 330 kills on UV. Sweet lord. He's also uploaded a new version of the WAD featuring some outside Dehacking by a master (ahem) which removes dead bodies so the game doesn't clog up after a Williamsonic run.

Zero Hour - Linguica

Securitron chief Zero Signal has updated his personal homepage with a new ZDoom WAD entitled "Zorg," an 11-sky texture pack, and a new screenshot of "Unsane DM."

Teppicky - Linguica

Teppic8 has uploaded a few pictures, including one of his Frankenstein-scarred self and another strange one of a Doom 2 ad with what looks like tripe in the background. Mmm, mmm.

Tranquility - Linguica

Tranquil Lament Software has posted ten new screenshots from their WAD-in-progress, "Trace: The Lost WAD." Looks like good stuff too.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Doom Anomaly is not dead, despite a recent dearth of updates. The head of the PC has been quite busy lately, but assures us that the full version of Doom Anomaly episode 1 will be released quite soon.

   19th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has decided to implement map goals which will appear on every level's starting slipgate pad. He also has posted an example picture showing what the level goals will look like in-game.

Survive! - Linguica

Rick Clark has posted three new demos in his "Survival" contest, including a big ole honking one from Adam Williamson, topping out at 188 kills. Damn, that's a lot of kills.

DANG It - Linguica

The Public DANG has posted some new demos for their ongoing E1M9 contest, with new times for both the Lemmings and Speedfighter halves.

Game Guru - Linguica

Funkymonk has an update about Game Guru, his game-loading frontend which allows gamers to load up any Doom-engine, Build-engine, or Quake-engine game with a variety of command-line options. He's put it on hold for a few months and is wondering if such a utility would be useful. He's also looking for a new name...

Co-op Rant - Linguica

Blake Linton Wilfong wrote in with a pointer to a rant/rave he wrote praising ZDoom for it's cooperative play support, or maybe denouncing newer games for their lack thereof. He also heaps praise upon the random map generator SLIGE.

Fizzdude Fun - Linguica

Fizzdude, creator of that recent gigantic Doom level "Imprisoned," has put up his own homepage over here.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Execution has a short update noting that the levels are continuing to be worked on, and also that the Execution MIDIs are now available in MP3 format.
  • Afterglow has posted updated versions of his ikbase and q2tex Doom texture WADs, and has also posted a new etxture WAD entitled "Sean Johnson Graphtallica #3." Weird name, cool textures.
  • Winwad has released version 0.2 of the WAD editor, which addresses a few minor bigfixes but adds mostly cosmetic changes.

   18th September 1999

Fraggle Stuff - Mordeth

At Fraggle's site you can find download links for the latest Fragglescript, its source and version 2.3 of the WAD compressing utility WADPTR and its source. BTW, at the Doom It Yourself site you can find a RISC OS and Unix version of this tool as well.

glHexen v0.90 Released - Mordeth

Michaël Ryssen has released a new version of glHexen which fixes clipping problems. It also features pwad compatability and updates polyobjects / sectors properly when revisiting a level.

Sitewatch - Mordeth

  • Yonatan Donner sends word that the Tools-Assisted Speedrun site has updated with seven nightmare demos for Final Doom that were "probably never done before" as well as a correction regarding a previously done p1m6 pacifist-style demo.

   17th September 1999

Operation: Rheingold Episode 2 OUT! - Linguica

That's right, the second episode of the latest WolfenDoom adventure, Operation: Rheingold, has been released right on schedule! In this second episode, "Gestapo Headquarters," the Allied agent finds himself locked away in a Nazi jail cell. After managing to overpower a guard and break free, he must fight his way out of the secret police's headquarters. With 3 levels and versions for both the Macintosh and the PC, there's no reason not to download it right now! Achtung!

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has uploaded a "re-release" of FlashDM1, last month's WAD of the month, with some minor fixes including texture alignment , water warping/swimming, and some other stuff.
  • DoomGL has released a new .MD2 pack with true-3D weapon models by "thomas." I don't think the heads-up sprites have been replaced, only the ones you pick up. In any event, very cool stuff.

Retro Doom? - Linguica

Matt Dixon sent in a link to a Quake message board which is functioning as headquarters for a "Retro Mapping Project," i.e. a bunch of Quake mappers putting together a Doom WAD. While this probably isn't very relevant (any Quake(2) mappers out there?), it certainly is an interesting idea, and fun to see all these new-schoolers fumble their way around a linedef.

Half-Doom - Linguica

Because of waning interest in creating Half-Life-styled levels, Cyb has released the sprite pack for his now-canceled Half-Life Doom TC. The pack includes a whole buttload of new monsters and weapons, complete with sounds and behaviors. If anyone has been wanting to make a few Half-Life themed Doom levels, here's the perfect sprite pack for it.

   16th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic is beginning to think that a Y2K release date for QDOOM might be a little early, since the level-making process is taking quite a bit of time. He considered releasing the first episode or 2 on January 1, but Marc would rather do it all at once than a little bit first and then maybe losing interest in finishing the rest. He also raves some more about true-3D levels (too bad we'll never get to see it, Marc).

DANG It - Linguica

The Public DANG has posted a few LMPs for their latest demo contest, with a new one for both the Lemming-style and the Speedfighter-style categories.

Fraggle Rock - Linguica

Fraggle, maker of the Doom source port SMMU, has updated his webpage with an apology to Randy Heit about the whole warping-water fiasco, and also mentions help in cleaning up the source code for his WAD compressor WADPTR.

DoomC++ Plans - Linguica

StroggOnMeth has updated his Game Stop with a new subpage about the features of Project: Legacy. Currently the subpage only goes over the stuff involved in adding in a DoomC++ and thus is wholly incomprehensible to me.

The Doors - Linguica

Unholy Software needs your help! Ebola has been trying his hand at drawing nice big door textures, but is drawing a blank, so to speak. If you're artistically inclined and want to help Unholy Software out, send 'em over a few door textures.

Teppicky - Linguica

Teppic8 has uploaded a page for a Doom Forum Webring, and also is still looking for those old WAD favorites! If there's an oldschool Doom deathmatch WAD that you just love, despite its age, send it over to Teppic, who wants them for some nerfarious purpose, no doubt.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Snowman, maker of Winwad, lets us all know that all the memory holes in the WAD editor appear to be plugged, and expects to release another beta this weekend. He's currently working on the PLAYPAL editor, which will be the first real editor in the program (other than moving WAD entries around and stuff).

   15th September 1999

New ZDoom - Linguica

Randy Heit has released a new version of ZDoom, bringing the Win32 Doom source port up to version 1.18b. This new version fixes the following errors:
  • Fixed crash when saving games with more than 1024 objects.
  • Fixed crash when loading a game without starting a new one first.
  • Reduced the size and frequency of pregame network packets, under the assumption that problems people were having using 1.18 on the Internet are a result of limited modem bandwidth.
Randy also addresses the question of his liquid texture warping in regards to the SMMU version of the same, asks if anyone is willing to do a DOS port of ZDoom 1.18, and offers up this tidbit.
I've also been mucking around with Linux lately, and am feeling more inclined to try my hand at a Linux version of ZDoom. Expect it before I do anything with DOS.
Now if only we could get real internet play, dammit!

Whoopsie - Linguica

Rick Clark has decided to change the "Survival" contest into demos rather than screenshots, because he realized that unsavory individuals would tamper their screenshots to give themself five billion kills. Damn... /me closes Photoshop...

The Page Of Doom - Linguica

Better late than never... a few days ago, The Page of Doom posted a big update to their Doom64 page, listing who made it and how it differs from other versions. The Creators page was also rewritten, adding people previously overlooked. Gerald Brom? Whossat?

Show Some Skin - Linguica

This one is even more overdue. The Skin Connection has posted last month's batch of submitted skins, which comes out to be only one -- "Hyena" by Unholy Software. Come on people... submit those skins for Doom Legacy and ZDoom, dammit!

Zero Signal - Linguica

Zero Signal of the Securitron TC sent word of his new webpage for all sorts of personal stuff, including Doom. He's thinking about making an arena for SmashDM, and also talks of texturage for his "Unsane" DM project.

Uberworld - Linguica

Since not much else is going on, I'll mention this... Mancubus sent in a link for Uberworld which looks like some sort of weirdo alternate-dimension DW, but certainly done very well. Cheers.

   14th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

I love a good dearth of news.
  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has gained another WAD reviewer by the name of Xtrackt, who has been initiated into the club of reviewers with his writeup about Cyb's "Liquid DM." They've also posted a new .BEX file so fans of Mike Tawney's Q2DM1-to-ZDoom conversion can use the railgun without breaking the 3D bridges (if you don't understand, don't ask). Also, there's a "semi-re-release" of FlashDM1 coming in the next few days.
  • Fanatic has an update about a little virus scare he recently rceived, and also mentions some work he's done on E1M1 of QDOOM, talking about 3D floors, line triggers, and lots more.
  • Desktop Doom has a short update about the moderator's other ongoing Doom commitments...

Survive! - Linguica

Rick Clark sent in word that his recently released Survival WAD for ZDoom works perfectly under ZDoom 1.18, so he's restated his wishes for people to send in their high scores on the WAD, the top ten of which will be posted on his webpage.

Gosh DANG It - Linguica

Overlooked this the other day, but The Public DANG has a brand-new contest where players can take on E1M9 one of two ways: either Lemmings-style (kill as few monsters as possible while finishing the level within par) and Speedfighter style (killing the most possible while completing the level within par). Sounds like fun!

   13th September 1999

Doom It Yourself - Mordeth

Something we missed earlier... Doom It Yourself, a RISC OS source port that compiles with GCC 2.7.2, has a small update that fixes a bug in its dehacked.c file. You can download this fixed file from the site.

glHeretic v1.00 Released - Mordeth

Michaël Ryssen has released the first full version of his OpenGL Heretic port, which now features support for the Voodoo2 mini-gl and Quake3 drivers, fixed clipping problems and support for 'normal' pwads. Last but not least it seems that he has finally found someone willing to create MD2 Heretic monster files... one MD2 file (that of the flying Gargoyle) is already available.

You can find these files mirrored at our source port section as well.

Happy Birthday - Linguica

Just a little shout-out to Mattrim Dixon, WADmaker extraordinaire, and co-creater of GothicDM and GothicDM2, as well as the main man behind last year's Gothic98 extravaganza. He's turned the big 21 today, so wish him a happy birthday!

Zort! - Linguica

While his webpage doesn't mention the fact, Cyb has been busy with the level editor and has released Zort 06: Rip and Tear!, the latest in his ZDoom-only series of Doom 2 WADs. This one has swimmable deep water and swirly flats, so it requires ZDoom 1.18 to run correctly.

REoL STUFF - Linguica

King REoL sends word that once his newest map "Lord of the Cyberdemons" is done, his REoL TOUGH Death Site will have word about a release party. 22,000 linedefs? 'Tis a lot.

DoomC++ - Linguica

StroggOnMeth has updated his Game Stop saying that he's still hard at work on DoomC++, debugging the text parser, slaving away over the compiler, and lots more.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Afterglow has overhauled his site a little with even more brown graphics (ooo), and has messed around with the Downloads and Screenshots pages, moving all the respective stuff to their pages.
  • That madman at Winwad has been on an updating spree, resulting in a beta (0.1) version of Winwad, with all the WAD editing tools you need to edit WADs, without actually editing anything that's in them.

   12th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has decided to release QDOOM's MP3s in two different packages when it comes out: as one big lump ZIP, or as individual files. He also started QDOOM's E1M1 yesterday, and talks about his thoughts on it, as well as his mentality in implementing skill levels as well as deathmatch and co-op starts.
  • DoomServ is still debugging the new server, and reminds people that they don't have to use the beta clients in order to use DoomServ, although bug-haters can help stamp out errors that way.

New ZDoom - Linguica

Randy Heit has released version 1,18a of ZDoom, with the following bug fixes:
  • Fixed liquid warping temporarily stopping when changing levels.
  • +/-mlook commands do not generate unknown command messages.
  • Fixed support for maps with more than 10 deathmatch starts.
  • Fixed support for the special "maps" EndGame? in MAPINFO lumps.
  • Teleport destination (no gravity) now works as intended.
  • Hopefully fixed savegame problems.
  • Bots are restored from savegames.
  • Fixed keyboard turning speed when -dup is used.
  • Network commands get executed only once when -dup is used.
  • In sectors with damaging floors and swimmable deep water, the damage will also be applied while the player is swimming and not just when the player is on the ground.
The changes are all bugfixes from version 1.18 which was released recently; there aren't any new features present in this version.

Chapter 666 - Linguica

Rick Clark has updated his Doom: The Next Chapter homepage with a bunch of tweaks and changes to the rules of the tabletop game. He's also posted a small deathmatch test scenario for everyone to try out their skills with.

Joel Returneth - Linguica

Joel Murdoch is back! Well, sort of. He's updated his new homepage with a big long update saying that since other matters call, he's having to cancel all WAD projects, stop doing reviews, and no longer code for any Doom projects. However, he is still offering to beta-test and debug people's Doom levels and projects. Nice to see you back around, Joel.

Annihilation - Linguica

Fyrestorm sent word of a little webpage he's thrown up for 3 mini-DM levels he's creating called Annihilation. The first map in the series has already been released, complete with nodes for play with the DoomBot 3.0.

New Hexen32 Release - Mordeth

Sheldon Clarke has released a new version of his Hexen32 port, as well as moved his site over to a new location at our fellow Telenation site Raven-Games. This version does not contain new features but has been tweaked and improved a bit. You can find it mirrored at our source port section as usual.

wHeretic Cancelled? - Mordeth

Over at the wHeretic site we learn that this project might be cancelled due to other obligations of author Robin McLeod. Still, a (last?) version with IPX and UDP support will still be released.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • The Doom WAD editor Winwad is coming along nicely, with the New, Delete, Rename, Select All, and Change IWAD/PWAD commands working properly. The author is trying to release a new beta before Tuesday, so keep your eyes peeled.

   11th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Paradox has a short status report about the work on the project, including Map09 and Map14 of the PC, as well as the departure of a team member and the hopes that Paradox will be released by next summer.

DoomServ Tourney - Linguica

It might be a little late now, but a DoomServ tournament is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM PDT, 11:00 EDT; or about half an hour from when I'm writing this. If you happen to catch it before it starts, or you want to try to jump in a little late, the webpage for it is here.

Doom Anomaly Released -- For Real Now - Linguica

The zipfile was corrupted yesterday, but Doom Anomaly 0.9 with the first five levels of the Doom-1-only partial conversion is now primed and ready for download.

DTNCGen Update - Linguica

Rick Clark has updated his Doom: The Next Chapter homepage with an update to his DTNCGen program which will now not only make up a player character for you, but will also calculate dice rolls and splash damage from projectiles.

The Haunt - Linguica

Nick Baker has uploaded his Haunt with a slightly updated version of Surge 2 which features some Boom-specific color and translucency maps as well as a new sky. He also wants to let everyone know which email to use to contact him when he's away at college, or face his almighty wrath!

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • The WAD editor Winwad has released Alpha 0.16, which still can't edit WADs as far as I know, but you can give them a good once-over.

   10th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Tool-Assisted Demos page has 2 new demos for Hell Revealed levels in simply insane times (as always), as well as a Ultra-Violence run through all 32 levels of The Plutonia Experiment in a bit over 32 minutes.
  • Oops... Desktop Doom has a short update saying that the Wintex source code is not in fact C++ but is rather plain old C. He still could use some help porting it to Win32...

Doom Anomaly Released - Linguica

It's here! Well, sort of... Doom Anomaly has released version 0.9 of the first episode, which includes all weapons (some available only via cheat code) and the first five levels. What are you waiting for? Stop reading! Go to the damn page already!

Update: The main Doom Anomaly zipfile appears to be corrupted so it looks as if we'll have to wait even longer...

COMPET-News - Linguica

The COMPET-N homepage has updated with a fricken boatload of demos to pore through: over 2 1/2 hours, in fact. What's new of note? Well, there's the first ever E1M6 Pacifist which is quite a feat, an episode 4 100/100 demo, and speedruns of every size, shape and color (including a few thousand Doom2 NM100S records).

The Day Of The Demo - Linguica

Wow, 3 demo sites update in one day. The Public DANG has updated with a couple of new speedruns, but most of the recent action has been with co-op and Heretic demos (to be released in a forthcoming update).

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • SmashDM's Darkfang is pleading with you guys: submit something! He has received a new character sprite entitled "Test-0" and another based after Mario. Things seem to have quieted down in the past few days, though; so start making a skin or arena to keep SmashDM alive!

   9/9/99

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Ricster is back! That's right... your favorite over-30 Doomer has yo-yoed his way back onto Doomworld once again, and is ready to resume all his ranting, level reviewing, and, er, other stuff that makes him just so damn special.
  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has posted a new WAD review of the DM level "Pennywise," and drools over the newly released Dreamcast.
  • Fanatic has posted error #16 to the DDF Errors page, which crashed the game when you tried to set a weapon to do zero damage.
  • Thomas Sturm of Desktop Doom has started work on the WinTex Plus manual, and is still in need of a Win32 C++ programmer to port the WinTex C++ DLL over to 32-bit.

Poop - Linguica

Well, turns out that there won't be any Doom Anomaly release today. I just got this tidbit in the mail:
Ok, well.....I couldnt upload anomaly today because some guy didnt send his level in until just now. I will upload the first 4 or 5 levels tomorrow afternoon and the rest on monday or tuesday.
Well, one day isn't bad, considering the way other release dates have been butchered in the past (you know who I'm talking about).

New DoomGL - Linguica

That crazy Kokak over at DoomGL has released version 1.0 of DoomGL, the OpenGL Doom port. New in this version is support for MiniGL and Quake 3 drivers, dynamic lighting on all the torches, polygon-clipping fixes, and better handling of tesselation errors. Also, Kokak has mirrored Edmundo Bordeu's addon .MD2 pack with some extra monsters and goodies. Next stop? GLZDoom (I hope).

New Linux Legacy - Linguica

Bell Kin has released a new version of OpenGL Doom Legacy for Linux, based on the 1.29 sources.

Surge 2! - Linguica

Nick Baker has updated his Haunt announcing the big surprise he had in store for us all -- Surge 2! That's right, the sequel to Surge, which was an homage to Overload, which was an homage to Gothic DM 2, which was the sequel to Gothic DM, has been released. This is merely a beta, however, with only 20 levels to fool around in. Nick promises the final version to have at least 32. If you have Boom or a Boom-compatible source port and you're looking for some new DM action, Surge 2 might be your ticket!

Cliffs Notes - Linguica

Rick Clark updated his Doom: The Next Chapter page with a small program which will automatically generate a character for use with the tabletop game. Neat stuff too!

Fragglicious - Linguica

Fraggle of SMMU fame has released a new version of his "WADPTR" utility which compresses WADs down to a mere fraction of their normal size. This new version takes out some arbitrary limits, allowing it to work with even gigantic levels, and can even compress levels without a specific map number (a SMMU feature). Works like a charm too. This should become part of the WADmaking procedure -- BSP... RMB... WADPTR...

   8th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has pulled out the ole calculator and has determined that QDOOM is 52% done, having taken seven months up to now, but is going to push and try to release QDOOM before Y2K. You've got 4 months, Fanatic... the clock is ticking :)

COMPET-News - Linguica

The definitive Doom demo site, COMPET-N, is back in action! Maintainer Adam Hegyi has 41 new demos to wade through so he doesn't have an update quite yet, but I did get word that there's a new Map16 speedrunning record with a trick no one found in almost 5 years. Will the madness ever end?

Living Nightmare - Linguica

Nick Baker updated his Haunt with some giddiness about the number of projects which have recently been released or are soon to be released. He also taunts us all about some project which is scheduled to be released tomorrow... damn that Nick! I'm supposed to know all of the secret cool stuff!

Fraggle Rock - Linguica

Fraggle has just gotten back from Portugal (where they have "a bowling alley and a very deep pool") and is ready to start plugging away again at SMMU. He's thinking grand thoughts for his FraggleScript code, perhaps even bigger than Doom, and we can only hope he succeeds. He also acknowledges that SMMU appears to have "made it" as a Doom source port (defined as when ZDoom starts having features that you had, too).

Prower Power - Linguica

prower is looking forward to all the neato stuff that's going down tomorrow! Dreamcast... Final Fantasy 8... Doom Anomaly... secret Doom projects... MTV Music Awards... end of world... the list just goes on and on.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Doom Nation has brought aboard Winwad, a new Doom WAD editor which also allows you to mess with the ENDOOM, the PLAYPAL and all sorts of other stuff.
  • DoomBot v3.0a has been released, with some general bug fixes (nothing specific mentioned on the page).

   7th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Thomas Sturm of Desktop Doom is in need of someone to port the C++ DLL in Wintex over to 32-bit code. He's also considering making the scripting language Python instead of his own original language (I just post the news, I don't always know what the hell it means).
  • Fanatic has been busy plugging away, upgrading QDOOM to version 0.52, completing QDOOM Map01, and pissing DoomCAD off something awful (usually when a Doom editor messes with your BIOS, it's time to switch).
  • Captain Mellow's Bot Page is back with a vengeance! Well, sort of. Captain Mellow has been away sleeping with Unreal's and Half-Life's bots, and hasn't even checked out the latest DoomBot or ZCajun! Oh, the shame! The awful, awful shame! How could you?!? In other news he's responded to prower's anti-deathmatch-level rant with a little pro-DM propoganda (I tend to side with prower on this issue, once again).

New DoomServ - Linguica

DoomServ has released not one, not two, but three betas of the new DoomServ client, with the two extras ironing out little bugs that kept popping up. The new client features password-protected usernames, more rooms, less crashes, private messages, and DoomServ mail to offline players.

Fly The Coop - Linguica

We all know and love the ongoing demo contest COMPET-N, but it's no longer the only Doom .LMP repository that ends with an "N". Newly opened is Coop-N, a demo page which proclaims to be the one-stop shop for all the greatest Doom and Doom 2 co-operative demos around.

Chapter 666 - Linguica

Rick Clark's Doom: The Next Chapter with some simplification of the splash damage calculation, "handedness" to player characters (ever notice how the Doomguy is ambidextrous?), and general other tidbits.

SOMGStuff - Linguica

StroggOnMeth updated his Game Stop with some info about DoomC++. There will apparently be three stages for the Doom coding language: the compiler, the virtual machine, and the original Doom game. I assume that would make sense who know something about coding, as would the phrases "tokenizer" and "codebanks."

The Monk Of Funk - Linguica

fUnKyMoNk talks some about responses to his Deathmatch Incarnate 2 level and his pre-Doom reviews, and lists a bunch of active Doom sites/places/ports and discusses each in detail (what Articles page? :)). I like how people have been saying that Doom's been dying since 1996... if so, its death throes are more melodramatic that Woody Harrelson's in The Thin Red Line.

Unholy Crap! - Linguica

Unholy Software found out what exactly was causing the music to not work right in its source ports. It also still needs some more votes in the "should we have a FMV sequence?" question, which currently stands at 4 to 3.

Caco Of Paradise - Linguica

Mechasam sent word that the Paradise Lost project is coming along well, and that he has just opened up a main project site that will list the current-in-works projects as well as some other various projects not made by him.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Ever wondered how to make a DoomBot nodetable? Don't despair, because there's a new manual up at the DoomBot site explaining how you can do just that.
  • Team Insanity has posted a review of Ropy II, and has decided to bring back the demo competition.
  • The Brotherhood of Ruin has posted some screenshots of "20 Days in Hell," an earlier Doom WAD by the page maintainer. He's also finished Map20 of Doom Millennium and has added a link to his puched snuff page (?).
  • Sir Robin's Doom Page (not to be be confused with Sir Robin's Hemp Page) has updated with three new reviews of prower's Helios 1 and Helios 2, as well as Richard Wiles' Spooky05.
  • RecidivuS has been busy breaking in the new apartment, but found the time to upload some stuff to his "miscellaneous" page for all to peruse. Also congratulate (I think) RecidivuS's inclusion on this week's ShugaShack Wack Links list.

   6th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has gained another member by the name of Warlock, who has come on board to help out during the school season. As his initiation he has reviewed Deathmatch Incarnate II by Steve Noonan. Also, the Doom DM Resource is looking for feedback on their deathmatch WADs of the month. If you tried them, tell 'em, dammit!

New ZDoom - Linguica

ZDoom 1.18 has finally been released, with the following changes:
  • Replaced the older Cajun 0.71 with Cajun 0.97
  • Fixed handling of status bar faces with skins that provide them.
  • Added swimmable water.
  • Messages printed to the middle of the screen also print to the console.
  • Skill and other server cvars get saved in savegames again.
  • Added liquid texture warping.
  • Bad MAPINFO lumps generate error messages instead of hanging.
  • Realized that it's impossible to guarantee that all object pointers will be valid without some effort, so FArchive saves DObject objects as NULL objects now instead of aborting with an error.
  • Added the ACS internal functions localambientsound, activatorsound, and setlinemonsterblocking.
  • Added a thing that does nothing but count toward the number of secrets.
  • Added a fly mode.
  • Finally implemented the +moveup and +movedown commands.
Also, Randy Heit has updated the ZDoom editing reference and the ZDoom level editor ZETH.

The Next Chapter - Linguica

Rick Clark, creator of Doom: The Next Chapter, has all the basic game info up now, except for a couple items he is still working on (like weapons fire spread). There should be enough info up to get a workable test game. As he says, "keep in mind though that this is still a draft version and therefore subject to change."

Prower Power - Linguica

Prower has posted a relatively lengthy review of "Crusades," the Richard Wiles Doom episode which was just released. He appears to like it quite a bit too!

REoL STUFF - Linguica

The REoL TOUGH homepage has Fizzdude's latest Doom 2 map entitled "Imprisoned." Warning: if you don't like maps with 25,000 sidedefs, this probably isn't a level for you.

   5th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has posted a QDOOM screenshot showing off the translucent water that's a feature of the new version of DOSDoom.

More Death - Linguica

Looks like I missed that Gaston updated the Mordeth TC Site a few days ago with apologies that he's had no time to work on the project for the past few weeks. He's found a new coder, however, by the name of David Wood, who has busy integrating the Mordeth engine (based on MBF) into the Fusion engine (based on MBF).

Prower Power - Linguica

prower has redesigned prower's place with a new grape-jelly HTML scheme and a little bit of news, including asking all of those who haven't played Helios 2 yet to please do so. He also has a short rant about deathmatch level designers (which I tend to agree with).

Teppicky - Linguica

Teppic has updated his domain with some screenshots of an upcoming deathmatch WAD entitled "Fractured Universe DM."

   4th September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Laz, the head of WolfenDoom project, sent this in:
Operation: Rheingold, Episode 2 -- "Gestapo Headquarters" has gone into beta-testing and should be released within a couple of weeks. This episode is more interactive than any previous WolfenDOOM scenario, with many breakable objects, including coffee cups, water coolers, lamps, street lights, and fire hydrants.
And if you haven't already, go over to the WolfenDoom page and play through Operation: Rheingold episode 1, and Arctic Wolf -- they both rock ass.
  • The Neo-Doom Team no longer exists! Don't worry, it's still around, but now it's called "TriggerAutomatic Productions." They're currently thinking about a pre-release of Neo-Doom for 9/9/99 (as if enough stuff wasn't happening that day already), and also explain what exactly Neo-Doom is (a 1-episode level replacement for The Ultimate Doom).
  • Fanatic has been busy cleaning up the sub-pages on his website, and has also found time to complete the MAP18 music for QDOOM.

New GLHexen - Linguica

Kokak, creator of the godlike DoomGL, has released GLHexen v0.8 which fixes a bunch of bugs and adds support for .MD2s -- so now enterprising souls can bring Hexen characters into full-3D with just a modelling program and some free time.

Haunted - Linguica

Nick Baker has updated his Doom Haunt with the sad news that since the university he'll be attending doesn't allow internet usage for anything besides work and research, he'll have to drop out from the projects he's been a part of. However, he'll still be plugging away on Doom stuff; mostly his own projects like Paradox, but also some stuff for the Execution project, an arena for SmashDM, and "something special" which he says might be revealed pretty soon. Eh what?

Paradise Lost - Linguica

Mechasam sent in word about his WAD project under production entitled "Paradise Lost," which currently has 6 level complete, but Mechasam is looking for new recruits to join up with his "Team Grunts."

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • SmashDM has posted the official skin specs for SmashDM, detailing everything one needs to create their own character for the funky deathmatch-but-not-quite project. Also, an animated GIF showing off the walk cycle of yours truly has been posted on the samples page.
  • Team Insanity is back, baby! Remember in July when TI was put on hold indefinitely? Well, it's back with a review of "UAC," an 11-level WAD by Kari Westerholm, Markku Steen, and janizdreg of the Stimpack Team. There's also some various news about other stuff.
  • Doom Anomaly has another update describing how episode one of the PC is edging ever-closer to completion, with only 5 days to go

   3rd September 1999

Doomstered - Linguica

El Doomster has posted two new reviews of "Icon of Sin 2" and "sprike," and also has a new "In Focus" WAD review up, this time of Ropy 2. The pics look damn nice too.

Bye Bye Wilie - Linguica

Richard Wiles sent in the following little announcement:
Just to let you guys know, I'll be uploading an Episode 4 replacement Ultimate Doom megawad (9 levels) to CDROM.COM on Sunday.

This will be the 5 'Spooky' maps, plus four newbies.

Then I'll be saying goodbye to Doom. God bless all you Doomers!

*sniff* Bye Richard... I'll miss you... *waves handkerchief*

Sitewatch - Covaro

  • Fanatic has updated his page with a new downloads page, where you get links to everything thing of his that is available for download. He also mentions that he is going to work on trying to get the rest of his pages cleaned up as well sometime later tonight. Also, be warned, Marc posted a rant as well on a concert he went to last night and he isn't exactly kind in his wording.
  • The DoomServ homepage has update saying that a new beta will be soon forthcoming, featuring Quake 2 support (guh), SiN support (guh again), 15 chat rooms, and a new help-bot. Is the name still DoomServ, guys?

Turn Based Death! - Covaro

Rick Clark has again updated his Doom: The Next Chapter page with more base additions to his Pen and Paper game. The newest of which are based off the monsters. Additions of each monster and their stats. He also got around to posting the experience a player can gain for getting into it with a monster. Rick noted that he had gotten around to getting his forum running as well. So go in and leave a message.

A Reminder - Covaro

Well, you want your news posted onto Doomworld? Want the best way to increase your chances. Well then, remember to send in news to news@doomworld.com whenever you update your site. It is the best way for you to get your news posted here on Doomworld. You have to realize that subscriptions are perfect, and that we may not always be using our computers which have them stored, but a public terminal or something similar. So remember, when you update, your next move should be to mail news@doomworld.com.

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Afterglow has posted a monkeyload of texture WADs done. They come with such pleasing names as "Graphtallica 1," "Graphtallica 2," "Ogro," and "Celtic Shrine." If you're making a Doom level and are getting sick of the standard textures (what, after five years and all), try these out for size.
  • Doom Anomaly has only 6 more days to go before the first episode is released! The news page has stuff about the ironing-out of bugs in the beta, and some new stuff which will be found in episode 1.

   2nd September 1999

Sitewatch - Linguica

  • Fanatic has posted a brand spanking new screenshot of QDOOM, showing off the great new 3D floors in DOSDoom, the new textures, an area of the start map, and one of the QDOOM weapons.
  • Ghostbusters Doom 2 has released a brand-new GBD2 demo, with 6 levels plus one bonus level, new enemies, weapons, etc. After trying it out, I can see that it's not all-new material, but if you've previously played the Ghostbusters Doom demo/beta, this one has lots of cool new stuff to check out. Go get it, dammit!

Revving Up - Linguica

The Doomster has posted three new WAD reviews of A Hell Day, Securitron, and Zort "The Cricket From Hell" 01.

The Next Chapter - Linguica

Rick Clark, maker of Doom: The Next Chapter, has posted a new weapons page which gives the strength and speed of all the weapons which can be used in the tabletop game. He's also posted a chat program for people to come and talk about the project.

Double Trouble - Linguica

Dybbuk's Doom Domain sends word that they've released not one but two megawads for everyone to download and play. This double-release consists of "Nightmares of Loki," a 26-level WAD for The Ultimate Doom, and "Chaos: Arrival," another Doom WAD requiring ZDoom to play.

Ich Bin Tot Nichts - Covaro

Well, after a long stretch with no computer due to a power supply failure, I've gotten my baby back. So I'll be able to update DW again! Not only that, but we have worked out a way for me to get into updating DW from school, so look for some midday updates from myself in the near future. Evenings may be slow going from me for a while as I deal with some real life crap. New job position, and a web page that needs to be done on Monday mostly. Other than that, I shall try and return as closely to my original news updating routine. Also, just to note, please remember to send news to news@doomworld.com instead of myself personally. My personal Doomworld account may go a few days at a time without replies. While I get all the news@doomworld.com emails at my school account as well. Whelp, I figured you'd all love to know that I am back to work on DW. So for now, I'm off to nap before I start my Philosophy HW...

Ling's Things - Linguica

Hey, if Covaro can blather on about his life, so can I. Win32 and I have not been getting along very well lately. When I tried to play the Doom Anomaly beta, attempting to set the color depth to 16-bit cleanly rebooted my computer, obviously not the intended effect. I discovered some other problems with the Anomaly beta, but I'm not sure if those are related to Anomaly itself or the horrid bugginess of the current DOSDoom as a whole. Then when I tried to play the new Ghostbusters Doom 2 demo, ZDoom also decided that Map03 was really meant to reboot my computer. Amid this nastiness I've been attempting to set up Linux on a second hard drive. Thankfully it installed without a hitch, but XFree86 refused to recognize my TNT2 card, resulting in a crash course in RedHat's use of RPMs. It's all working fine now, but it's odd to think that just a day ago I was debating which drive letter I was going to assign to Linux. /dev/hdb1? What's that?

   1st September 1999

Relive The Nightmare - Mordeth

The Realm of Chaos crew sent word about their new project called "Phobia". This 9-level Ultimate Doom project will bring back memories of the very first Doom episode, which many still consider to be the best set of levels ever because of its strong theme.
This Ultimate Doom episode (8 levels & a secret level), expected to be finished at the end of the year, will feature the maximum change in vertical height with the minimal number of sectors, extremely interconnected small levels, an overall tech/base look with very active lighting, lots of secrets, and lots of indoor/outdoor areas so that all levels play inside and outside of buildings. Plus, the action will be more frantic than in any KNEE DEEP-style episode out there.
...And they've got twelve screenies for you as well. Go looksee.

Sitewatch - Mordeth

  • Oww my eyes dammit! :) Thomas Sturm has given the Desktop Doom site a new look. Amongst other things he has released an early alpha version of his Wintex Plus project, using the recently released source of the all-around WAD editor Wintex. Don't get excited just yet... it has a "console and an open button on the view dialog" which is done mainly for testing purposes.
  • The Covert Ops site has news about their totally kick-ass weaponry, the prospect of real falling snow in levels and some words about mapping progress.
  • Edmundo Bordeu made some new MD2 models for DoomGL, which are available at Edmundo's site and mirrored here as well. Among the new models are the Demon, Lost Soul and the Baron.
  • The Doom Deathmatch Resource has posted an exclusive interview with DarkFang, the creator of Thrust and Smash Doom DM. The interview mainly focuses on Smash Doom DM and its many varied and exciting aspects.
  • The Doomed Millennium has posted a review of the GoldenEye 007 deathmatch mod created by Stephen Browning over at Ghostbusters Doom 2.

Chapter 666 - Linguica

Rick Clark, who has recently unveiled his Doom: The Next Chapter tabletop RPG game, has started up a mailing list for people interested in the project. Also, Rick has posted a few new sections on the D:TNC webpage for everyone to look over.

QDOOM CD Review - Linguica

Jeromy (Manna) Visser of Tranquil Lament Software has posted a short review of the QDOOM (oops, make that "Fragging Fanatical") CD that he recently won from Fanatic. What does he think of it? I won't give it away, but he sums it up in two words and one of those words is "rocks."

Doom Nation Stuff - Linguica

  • Afterglow has put up a new logo to replace his old watery one. He's also released Sacrifice DM 5, the latest in his line of deathmatch levels, and it working on a SlaughterDM-themed SmashDM arena.
