Afterglew

Afterglow updated his homepage about some various stuff, such as a review of RuinDM, a tutorial/guide on lighting in the Doom engine, and some links to some cool conceptual artwork, not to mention the original painting used for the Doom 2 box cover.

MrElusive Interview

Stomped has posted an interview with Jan Paul van Waveren aka "MrElusive," the contract AI programmer for id Software. Most of the interview talks about Q3A but there's a little bit of Doom stuff in there too:

Stomped: Is it safe to say you are doing some work on the new Doom game?

van Waveren: I'll be doing some stuff with it. I think I will probably be working with Jim Dose, either working on the scripting or together with him doing the AI for Doom. I'll just be helping out there.

Stomped: What's the challenge in creating the AI for a single-player game as opposed to a multiplayer game?

van Waveren: I think the variety of enemies you have. You probably want to share certain things with all the monsters, because you want to share code and information for all the enemies. At the same time, you want to make them versatile and different enough so they become different characters with different personalities.

So there's going to be scripted sequences in the single-player game, and the enemies will have different personalities... *takes notes*

Doom 3 Music In Spin

Saw this on Blue's:

Writer Matt Schwenk sends word that he's currently working on an article for Spin Magazine about the recent news that the soundtrack for id Software's upcoming Doom title will be composed by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor. He's interested in hearing what hardcore gaming fans think (and who you would pick to do the soundtrack), so if you'd like the opportunity to be quoted in the article send your thoughts to DOOM@spinmag.com.
I'm sending in links to Doomworld articles and comments threads right now...

Team Insanity

Seems we forgot to mention Team Insanity's latest update... that's what you get when not using our nifty news notification thingie guys :) Several new reviews have been added this time, taking a closer look at "Grinder", "World of Deth", "AfterDoom" and "RuinDM". Lüt also mentions the "Doom Millenium" project status... apparantly it might be released "within 2 weeks". That ought to be good news for those who have been waiting for its resurrection with baited breath.

Alien Vindicta

The Alien Vindicta project has gotten itself a new musician/level designer. They're close to finishing... only about three levels left to do for this full 32 level megawad, as well as polishing existing work.
