Ledmeister did a mechanical (that means well-calculated)
Reality maxdemo on Attack.
--
note: real reality is no plasma, but in this case, that just means more
time.
Albert Valls walked through Gallows2
Map01 with a nice maxdemo.
After that, he ran through Yab
with a nice speedrun (lots of instant shooters here).
He then strolled through Ophase
with a maxdemo, a -fast maxdemo, and a reality maxdemo.
Then, he travelled back in time to play the world's first third-party
pwad, Origwad.
In style, too, I might add...
I must be getting too old; I forgot to mention that I added Vrooomer's
high-quality maxdemo on Zap28
in the last update.
Sorry about that, Albert.
TAS
site updated with two excellent Cameron Prosser demos.
New Compet-N
pwad demos on: five on Classic_Episode,
one on Memento Mori,
and one on Requiem.
All the demos from this update: here
or here (89
kb)
other news:
Xit Vono improved on Patrick Martin's infamously long T4m1 demo at
the Compet-N.
Less impressive, but certainly more exciting, is his tt13-2416 run.
Disturbed's
Doom Speedrunner's Forum -- the old forum was removed; this is its
new home. (IE only).
New Doomworld contest.
/newstuff
is back. yay.

2 big demosets were released:
T_dunn02 max
record demos and -fast demos
-- by the DSForum Team -- Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff, Doug "Opulent" Merrill
and Esa "Espi" Repo.
These range from recommended to must-see demos.
Personal thanks to Espi and Ryback for doing the maps that I couldn't.
Bonus demo: Ryback's initial tf04 demo.
Slayer was re-released
in its final form.
Virgil the Doom Poet conquered the maps in less than a week.
Tough maps: Good demos.
Gonzalo Perez de la Ossa and Albert Valls did some nice demos on the
infectious Yab map.
-- Albert also recorded one of the few (there are like 7 of these that
I have seen) bug demos where, I think, the bsp tree fails.
-- Coincidentally, PrBoom2.2.2 was released with near perfect Doom2.exe
emulation...
Vrooomer
also did a whole slew of other quality maxdemos:
-- Dmdjm01
-- Dwspd019
-- Jon Rimmer's re-done map.
-- Eulogy9
-- Jagedg01
-- recommended.
-- Jagedg02
-- 2shadows
-- the speedruns feature a nice exit jump. Very dated
map, but one of the first Doom2 wads with any merit.
-- Swlavcit
-- max / -fast / pacifist / max reality / speedrun
(One of those maps where you know you've spent more time
playing it, than the author took to make it!)
Varun Abhirama Krishna did a good maxdemo on his brother's latest map,
Ophase.
Xit Vono did 2 tough speedrun demos on Map31 of The
Trooper's Playground.
(hint: there is no ttp31 map)
TAS
site updated.
New Compet-N
pwad demos on: one on Hell
Revealed, two on Memento
Mori, and a boatload on Requiem.
I haven't seen such a long speedrun battle (rq10) go
untouched by PlanetAdam in awhile... fun to be a spectator!
All the demos from this update: here
or here (636
kb)
other news:
New ftp.cdrom.com mirrors and master
id server. This
might be your best bet if you live in the Americas. =]
Surprising names in the Compet-N incoming: Stx-Vile and Steffen 'Rini'
Udluft. Amazing...
You might say I've been enjoying
my new broadband connection. (that's
no bot or quad_factor either)

10/08/01
Fixed and added some links.
A reminder that this
directory at 3ddownloads has most of the wads needed for the DSDA.
I was going to mirror what I thought were the best wads made; but hopefully
we will have a different solution for that problem.
Besides, I've got my mind set on making a FPS demosite... = ]
My new email is finally set: opulent.doom2@home.com
-- also updated my Doom2
page.. well, perhaps 'updated' isn't the right word. |
10/5/01
Been busy.. getting spread too thin recently. = /
Anyway, onto the demos...
Anthony Soto and Laszlo Vecsei did a complete Classic_Episode
cooperative maxdemo. Recommended.
Albert Valls did a Skill 1 speedrun through the entire Cyberdreams
megawad! Impressive feat, even on skill 1. Highly recommended.
He also sent a few demos for Russell Pearson's Deleted
Scene. -- 2 maxdemos and 2 nomo runs.
Espi kindly sent a great maxdemo for my Op_801
map. thanks.
Ledmeister did a nice demo on Virgil;
Ledmeister-style. (which is 100/100/100 exiting as healthy
as possible on the map in the shortest time)
Karthik Abhirama Krishna did a maxdemo on Dead
Simple: Revisited.
I did a speedrun and a maxdemo on Marduk2.
Here's an exclusive demo pre-release of Cameron Prosser's map, MB(that
got swallowed by ftp.cdrom.com/.../doom/incoming).
Keep in mind that this is just a beta..., and don't have children present
if you load it on UV. = ]
The most active DSDA player, Albert 'Vrooomer' Valls, is half of Présage.
Along with several new demos from this update are dozens of demos and
high quality maps in both the Vrooomer
Coda and Dense13
Alley.
Besides all the Cyberdreams stuff, there are single-player and deathmatch
maps, sp and dm demos, and other goodies... certainly one of the
Doom sites with the most content.
Not since Andy Olivera's site has their been so many high quality pwad
Doom demos in one place... a
must visit.
TAS
site updated.
New Compet-N
pwad demos on: Memento
Mori and Requiem.
All (all DSDA hosted demos, that is) the demos
from this update: here
or here (73
kb)
other news:
Espi's site,
that I had mentioned in the last update is no longer IE-only. Updated as
well... so go have a look! cool screenshots.
Swedish Fish will
hopefully have an exclusive release of Richard Wiles' Slayer megawad.
That is surely worth waiting for.
Humor and quality demos are the daily routine at the QuakeSDA,
so give them a regular visit. (new message board)
Also anyone reading this page should really be participating at the
Doom
Speedrunner's Forum.
Ftp.cdrom.com will no longer host directories that don't generate revenue.
Honestly, I think they were kind to hold them so long.
It wasn't going to last forever.. so get to your nearest mirror and
grab what you want!
Since ftp.cdrom.com is no longer available, go to a mirror or email
me if you want a wadfile.
I should have a much better solution at my next update...

The most action this week was on my WIAW map for Metabolist,
Op_801.
-- Adam Hegyi did an excellent maxdemo and a TAS maxdemo.
-- Chris Ratcliff did 2 -fast demos.
-- I did a max and a -fast demo.
Thanks again, guys.
Albert 'Vrooomer' Valls did a bunch of good maxdemos on quality maps:
-- Jagedg03
-- Khills_2
-- Swmort03
Speaking of quality maps: Espi
(IE only) released a new version of his Laitos
map.
-- He did several good maxdemos for it.
Albert and I had a small competition on Stphrz' nice 10secto2
map.
-- nice to finally win one of those. = ]
Vrooomer also did a maxdemo on the ammo-challenged Map21...
... while I did a maxdemo on Map01.
I did a very slow maxdemo on Fredrik's grand Castle
of the Eternal Carrot map.
If for some reason you cannot download a demo or a wadfile, just ask
me
for it.
Temporary map links: Laitos

TAS
site updated.
New Compet-N
pwad demos on: Hell
Revealed and Requiem.
-- including a very nice hf16 by Chris Ratcliff.
All the demos from this update: here
or here (297
kb)
other news:
I did a terrible half-finished map
for the 18th Speedmapping wad (very late entry).
The Mole's
contest is still active.
Lots of quality demos (Netquake) at Illmind and the SDA.
I did some Doombot5.1 demos
on Rick Clark's new Galley map.
This
proves that some people have more time on their hands than me.
--from this
page -- from Slashdot.

9/19/01
Small update:
Added 2 more leftover demos from the E1contest recordings.
grab both here
(temporary link)
Added a bunch of Compet-N Requiem demos including Vono's movie.
(Requiem Map31 is such a cool map.)
Fixed a few pages.
other news:
Big (not to mention hilarious) updates at the Speed
Demos Archive.
-- new demos include QRDQ
by Ingmar 'Nagasaki'
Poerner (IE only -- the page, not the man).

9/18/01
It's been a long time since we saw a Doom Gods demoset, but the DSF
Crew (heh) is the next best thing.
We (Ryback, Swedish Fish, The Mole, and I) did a quality demoset
for Doomcenter's E1contestwad.
I also did 2 speedruns for it as well.
Adam Hegyi sent a bunch of amazing incredible
godlike demos for Md.
Must-see demos. Truly stunning skills.
Albert Valls and Varun Abhirama Krishna sent some Md demos too.
Thanks guys.
Cameron Prosser did another bit of TAS magic -- Hell
Revealed Map22 on nightmare -- pacifist this time!
-- absurd demo with him amidst hundreds of monsters constantly.
Another must see demo.
Adam also sent a near-optimized demo for Virgil's latest map, Vrgl-3t.
Recommeded.
Virgil did a nice demo himself which is included in the zipfile.
Speaking of Virgil the DOOM Poet, he sent a maxdemo for his challenging
Ash2ash
map.
Adam Hegyi, Albert Valls, and I did maxdemos on Wim Vanrie's Dead
Simple: Revisited map.
-- The king of Map07's proves his meddle once again. = ]
Albert Valls improved his demo for the Featured
map with the fastest time yet.
Chris 'Ryback' Ratcliff and I did entire demosets for Dwspd016.
Fredrik Johansson, mapmaker extraordinaire, did a nice speedrun on
his Dwspd017 map.
I did some maxdemos on all of the Dwspd017 maps.
I also did a maxdemo on Hans.
Lastly, Albert and I did demos on Wim's other new map, Terrer2.
TAS
site updated.
New Compet-N
pwad demos on: Classic_Episode,
MM1,
and Requiem.
-- includes a 1-10 Requiem speedrun by Xit Vono. Recommended.
All the demos from this update: here
or here (463
kb)
other news:
Some more fx/Sedlo deathmatch goodness at Arno's.
Congratulations to Mark 'Pugsley' Thompson for completing Doom2 on
UltraViolence. Temporary
link
-- Only a handful of Doomers, albeit a large handful, have ever
managed that.feat. Good job!
I did a silly (and not very good -- only a first try.) Zdoom speedrun
through Doom2. Temporary
link
-- even with all the trick jumps it is slower than Vincent's fastest
run.
Varun's Doom Inferno has
a nice site with occasional demos and reviews.
I forgot to mention last time that my Main
Doom2 page will probably never see the light of day again after they
remove the domain.
Perhaps I'll re-do the 'Best of Doom2' page, but only time will tell
on that.
I hope I helped some lost souls over the years find some of the better
Doom2 add-ons and demos with that site.
Makes me realize that there is not a single full review site really
going strong -- Colin and Robin are still active... occasionally.
Lastly, this
image of the new WTC made me laugh... my condolences to those who were
directly affected by that tragedy.

9/06/01
One year anniversary of the DSDA.
Coincidentally, the counter turned over to 10,000.
-- Albert Valls was the man behind the computer who kindly sent a screenshot.
Thanks, Albert.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the site over the last year.
Onto the demos:
Chris Ratcliff, Anthony Soto, Martin Schultz, and Wim Vanrie did a
nice demoset for the 2001-e1
episode.
Martin and I also did some speedruns.
Lots of Darkening
action:
-- Donatas Tamonis did an entire max demoset (this was done long ago
- they still are nice demos).
-- Xit Vono did a TAS nightmare demo on Map02.
-- Martin Schultz did 3 maxdemos and a nightmare speedrun.
-- Xit Vono also did 2 nightmare, a pacifist, and a tyson -- sounds
like a recipe for a revolution. =P
Chris Ratcliff did maxdemos for the latest Speedmapping wad -- #15.
Albert Valls generously sent some more very nice Md
demos.
-- Nightmare speedrun and a -fast demo; both in record times.
He also did a tyson and a maxdemo on Stones.wad;
which is supposedly the second pwad ever released.
Hell Revealed:
-- Cameron Prosser did some must-see TAS demos.
Nightmare Pacifist run on Map25 in only :26.
Nightmare run on Map22 in 1:15.
UV speedrun on Map24 in :17.
-- I did 3 maxdemos(19, 21, 27) and 3 -fast demos(19, 21, 21).
TAS
site updated with some truly amazing demos.
Lots of new Compet-N
pwad demos on all the megawads: Classic_Episode,
Hell Revealed, MM1,
MM2,
and Requiem.
All the demos from this update: here
or here (518
kb)
other news:
Big update at the Compet-N.
My old ISP was shutdown, so my old
Doom2 page is at Mindspring
now.
-- about a month from now, I should have finally migrated to @home;
so those pages are in transition right now.
Although Earthlink promised me the email that was left of the Goodnet
mail servers, it is now lost permanently -- so it you sent something that
I didn't update, please resend
it. Thanks.
Additionally, once I am @home, I get 70Mb of web space... ooh, I think
I may put up a best FPS demos page...
Lastly, Battle.net's DiabloII servers are ridiculous bad -- that would
take a lot of patience.
