other news:
Since the DSF died, it was very kind of the admins at Doomworld to
add the Demos
Forum. Thanks to Lut, Julian, and Grazza for doing all
the work.
-- there is a demo page
that I put up in reference to the Demos Forum. Lots of good action
already, including some must-see stuff by Vile and Tamonis...
The Compet-N
is now hosted by Bahdko. Congratulations on finally getting out of
school forever, Adam!
-- huge update there with hordes of must-see demos and contest results.
Congrats to Altima_Mantoid and Vile on their contest victories.
-- Myk noted that those who have trouble with ftp connections can connect
to the best ftp site on the internet via http: Competn.doom2.net
Myk Helnyte
-- Doomentia Deathmatch demos and more.
Alexis
Newhaus -- Rw demos and more.
Grazza's
HP -- Some misc demos; still growing.
Doom2.net has demos
and more from Bahdlan3;
and a new informative article
too.
Ledmeister's fantastic DOOM help site has moved to ClassicDoom.com.
Prboom2.2.4
and Prboom2.3.0 were released. link
(ooh, chasecam in PrBoom...)
Zdoom 2.0.5.0 - 2.0.5.2
released.
The Rabbit Run
(Sept. 18, 2003 news) was finally released in avi format.
If you are even mildly into speedrunning, I'd say this is a must-see.
Quake
Done Chopped in-progress.
Way off-topic, I have been enjoying Chuck
Palahniuk's writings. Extremely clever and often funny, but falls
short of incredible.
Not demo-related either, but for all of you who store
stuff for the future; some thoughts to chew on:
-- no back-up media is 100% reliable. CD-Rs have
a life expectancy under 2 years under normal storage; DLT-type tapes probably
will last 10 years or so.
-- all magnetic media and devices (hard drives too) will
fail from use or poor handling; and are guaranteed to fail sometime.
-- back up your data! -- mirror it somewhere on your
hdd, burn cds, copy it to a second machine, write it down on paper... do
something.
-- lastly, I'm still bent out of shape about maintaining
a ms-dos compatible box for 20-40 years(sound, cdrom, and mouse support).
Guess I'll be buying a few Pentium2 machines on Ebay for safe keeping...
then just keep my fingers crossed...
