WolfenDooM: 2nd Encounter

NOTE! Read how to play this with BooM from here.

WolfenDooM is every retro-gamers and nazi-haters dream. DooM version of a game where you kill hundreds of nazis and then finally you meet the Hitler! This total conversion features new graphics with the style of Wolfenstein, new enemies, ambience sounds and 30 levels based on original Wolfenstein levels + 2 new Wolfenstein levels!

Of course this Total Conversion don't have Wolfensteins horrible bugs and ridicilous controls. You can play this just like DooM, with mouse or keyboard... This gives a brand new meaning for playing Wolfenstein.

Graphics
New graphics are mainly based on original Wolfenstein graphics and DooM 2 Wolfenstein levels graphics. They are very good quality and they really give the feeling of playing Wolfenstein. Floor and ceiling graphics are mainly DooM graphics, but there are some new too (remember, Wolfenstein didn't even have floor/ceiling graphics :) ).

Weapons
Pistol, chaingun, super shotgun and rocket launcher have stayed original, but other weapons have been altered.

Shotgun is now different looking and faster. It quickly comes your favourite weapon.

Plasma rifle has changed into a flame thrower, but basically it's still the same weapon. Cool looking however.

BFG9000 has been replaced with grenades. You just throw them on the ground and watch your enemies blow up (grin).

Enemies
Enemies are basically changed to Wolfensteins enemies. However they are somewhat "wussyer" than original Wolfenstein enemies. In wolfenstein you could lose half of your health from pistol shot, and now you can lose barely nothing :( They are not as tuff as they used to be, and the graphics are a little bit too small too...

Sounds
Now here we have a BIG bug. I don't know about the original Macintosh version, but in PC version some sounds don't work. DooM just ignores them, so the enemies are a bit quiet, BooM plays them, but they sound horrible, and Wintex refuses to play them. However the working sounds are just fine.

Levels
Of course now the levels can take advantage of DooM's different lightning levels and floor/ceiling height + outdoor areas. Still most of the levels are just as flat as original Wolfenstein level, with the exception of few windows, doors and elevators here and there... Some levels however use DooM's possibilitys just fine... In the second screenshot you can see floor/ceiling height that most levels use, and in the rest you can see what the better levels look like.
Also the walls sre mainly as blocky as Wolfenstein walls.

Final comments
In fact a very good Total Conversion that still has some major flaws on it. I recommend you to download this specially if you hate nazis. For a retro-gamer this is a big joy too... As I don't have macintosh, I can't check if all sounds work in it, but propably they do.

Here's a quick summary:
The look: "Wolfensteinish". Nostalgic and blocky.
Sounds: Good (except those that don't work on PC).
The feel: Very good. Got on the mood.
Hardness: A bit too easy. It get's harder in the end, but not hard enough.
Mindwork: What mindwork?

Points: ****

Guess who is coming to dinner (grin)

Burn nazi scum, burn!

Nice outdoor areas that were impossible to do in Wolfenstein

Also stairs and stuff like this was impossible

Some places are simple but really good looking

Different light levels were impossible in Wolfenstein. Now we even have night levels!
