INTRODUCTION :

After having worked whole 2008 year on textures, sounds and sprite design on "Hoki no Dookie" project, instead to review it to make it compliant with Doom2, I decided to plan a new project.
Let's work on a brand new map totally designed for Doom1 and Doom2.

Project codename : Aw3som3
Target : More than a simple arena, create a detailled historical monument in a Doom1 Doom2 compliant Map
Monument Location : Seattle, WA
Deadline : End 2008

1. THE MAP

GET READY FOR AN AMAZING WORK ON LIGHT :

This megawad offers the most wide vitral surface of whole America, consequently a work sector by sector is required to recreate progressive aspect of lights.

GET READY FOR A REAL CHALLENGE TO CREATE CURVES :

As Doom engine is not able to create curves, to recreate them, need to use square.
But as the roof is 120 feet height the player's perspective of 45 degrees will smooth them, also textures could fool the player by creating false round effects.

GET READY FOR A FANTASTIC WORK ON TEXTURES :

In order to make the map compliant with both Doom1 and Doom2 users, after a manuel extraction of all their ressources and classification, 102 textures and 81 patches are compatibles.
Consequently, it need to be usefull to focus on those textures and patches. Luckily, a bowel interior is mostly pink which matches with Doom palette.

By working on this texture analysis, and after have proceeding test, it is possible to follow a scale that allows photographic reconstitution that will respect the monument :
1 pixel = 3 centimeters (1 inch)
32 pixels = 1 meter (3 feet)
64 pixels = 2 meters (6 feet)
96 pixels = 3 meters (9 feet)
128 pixels = 4 meters (12 feet)

2. THE GAMEPLAY

- Multiplayer only
- Compliant with all existing engines, online engines, OpenGL engines (also including original Doom2 DOS).
- 3 playable levels in a same map : Hall, Roof, Catacombs all linked by stairs.

Fight in the hall, climb to the roof, push your opponents in the deep... hide yourself in the catacombs

As the engine didn't allow to generate maps that have different levels on a same sector, all 3 parts need to be linked by teleporters.
In order to reduce the inconvenience between each area, the teleport images would be turned transparent and the player will disappear in dark areas.

3. THE DEVELOPMENT

Worked the complete january month on documentation, art, vitral, drawings...

Looking now for mappers that are interested to join this project, in order to help them I'll provide drawings coming from the monument, textures analysis, vitrals photography, cathedral photography.
Few ideas coming from technical drawing could be improved in the WAD and will be explained to solve many issues such as optic vision of curves, progressive lights, ceils and floors.

WIP would be used to report the evolution.

I think more people would want to join this project if you held a celluloid contest, to see whose celluloids were the best. I've got some pretty good celluloids.

Confirmation email will be televised sooner to announce the projected layout of episodes. The sooner we can proceed with units of catehdral, eg metres and pixel correlated to the precise point, we can make new maps.

I am so sorry! Please keep me on the team, I made progress! Listen.

I had no clue what I was going to make so that is why I was quiet. But when I was making spaghetti I dropped the pot and all of the spaghetti feel on the floor. It was like God himself joined our project because what I saw on the floor was not spaghetti; oh no, what I saw were lines and sectors begging to come to life. So my theme is "Spaghetti on the floor", I am using the layout based on that.

I've not recieved the information newsletter? No matter, it's likely just a display error. The project lives on.

The problem is that I can't figure out the precise and absolute scale for Doom, and it'd be blasphemous to begin mapping without that. That being said, I'm going to have to book a flight to see the cathedral in person to sort this out. As such, I likely will not be able to draw a single sector for a number of years considering my current funding for this non-profit project.

I hope I can still be a part of the team, though this shouldn't be a problem with current project development time at several decades. I can just advertise to raise funds and awareness in the meantime.

Gentlemans,

This project is reaching itself over the world, we have teams of dedicated mappers and artists and businessmen setting up revolutionary design...

Current estimation while counting nicknames is around 76 people...
Various individuals (youngest 9, oldest 87) in various places.
2-3 working in informatic, no more...

One is a college student, one in a door manufacture, one is martial art instructor, one is musician, one reproduce goats, one is doctor, one is translator, one is building keeper, one is law student, one is in high school, one is in physic college, one is in car industry, one has a grocery, one is working in milk industry, one is in agriculture, one is programming telephones, even one is a sex offender... really various profiles can't remember all.

Location are various too...
All linked together on a main project...

Current target was to make the work legaly acceptable for a storage on idgames, tooks a week...

Due time for this design venture is end of 2008, I cannot make later time... I have twelve different time schedules for various projects in the future. Sorry Death-Destiny... but if you map fast, I will consider...

This project may not be a success without the warm help of a team around 76 people in the whole world.

Really nice to see that missing sleeptime wasn't for nothing since today.

Time to sleep 2AM.
