Just out of curiousity since Community Chest has made the switch over to the more powerful Zdoom engine, I'm making a poll asking fellow doomers if this should allow mappers to have more freedom on resources they can use in the musical category. Mp3 remixes, .mods, the list goes on and on. Take a vote and give an opinion.

A size limit for music data per mapper, something like 512 Kb, that they can use for MP3, MOD or whatever they want.

I second Exl's suggestion. MOD music isn't that much larger than a good MIDI/MUS file, and S3M's and IT's go a little farther but not by much. The largest XM's only clock up to a meg, and those are rare.

Well I was planning on making a mod music track fro my map so I voted yes (but not too large of course, we don't want a megawad with 32+ 3-7mb mp3s...)

I think it should be midis only. This helps keep the file size down, and if different people used midis, mods and mp3s in their maps, it would feel less consistent, more like a bundle of levels thrown together without any real purpose.

All right, I guess I'll find a suitable MIDI to use.

And CC3 is not a bunch of levels thrown together?

I think MODs are okay, but if everyone put in a MP3 then the filesize would be enormous. If a person has a song made SPECIFICALLY FOR THE LEVEL then I will probably let them use it as a fairly low quality ogg but that's about it.

The largest tracker file I have is a 4373KB XM file. I have 32 other XM and IT files larger than 1MB in size.

Anybody think they can make a .mod of "Ride the Chariot to the Devil" by Sum 41?

It would sound perfect in my map, IMO.

I would do it myself if I knew how.

EDIT: If you need the song, I can send it to you... =/

512 kb you say. That'll be a really low quality mp3.

The OP says we're doing a zdoom project...

Yet I remember quite specifically reading it was a Doom 2 (limit removing) project, so now I'm wondering... WTF are we doing?
