Now...the engine DOES matter you lazy gameplay dreamers. How the fuck do you think the designs get implemented in the game?? There's a fucking engine in the back assembling the data.

id's strongest point is the rendering subsystem of the engine, I'll give you that one, though. And we all know Visuals aren't as important as Gameplay. I want both, mind you...

Well, it is my opinion that the engine in each id-game was the strongest part. And, moreover, I think it does matter a hell of a lot.

I was referring to another post in which it was said that Gameplay/Story (whatever You may call it) was more important than the Engine.

You could have the best damn enigine inthe world but have the worse gameplay, lets play shoot the cube with the doom 3 engine.. hehe.. Spamming cadoleader is fun.. =)

That's one of the main reasons i don't use Win2k yet. Doom as i know it wouldn't run :( That blows :(

One of those ports would be great to have indeed!

Erf? DOOM as you know it? Explain. The whole thing or bits of it wouldn't work right? *Is happily cursing out Windows ME for not playing cd sound on some of her older games* I have ME and DOOM works fine... but that's just me....

That's why i said WIN2K and not windows ME.

Doom as i know it:

cd\doom
doom

try doing that in win2k... most of the keyboard gets disabled and stuff because MS decided to drop that whole Dos thingy. so there.

Sourceports? no thanks.

Let's hope the guys at id are aware of the multiplay aspects, where, from what I see, half the planet is using one cheat bot or another in all the latest games, HL Quake3, etc, and could look at something like punkbusters and see if it can be implemented in game code

I heard from some cs players that punkbuster is more like a pest than anything useful. It kicks people for nothing, but there's tons of cheating programs that were/are created to avoid pb, and they work as well.
