Otherwise i like the update on doom3.com. Sfx looking cool so far.

The sfx on the website really gave me the chills. First background "music" kicks in, which reminds me somewhat of the music from PSXDoom's "Deimos Anomaly" track minus the overly apparent moaning. Then when it loads up, and the sound effect comes in for a second when all the links fly around that circle. That, imo, is an awesome sound effect. Click on a link, and you get a cackling noise which reminds me somewhat of the Arch Vile when I hear it. The entire site creeped me out, but when I clicked on one of the links, and the zombies came up and it made that sound effect, I got goosebumps literally (I had some good Sony headphones on while I was on the site). After I left I was still chilled. Shit, I don't even like horror films or any of that crap get to me like that, but Doom 3 can? Damn. And that's just the website...

Hm, i dont really like the site (everybody else:"theres always one..ect"), whats with taking up your whole screen?, for people who dont know ALT+TAB, and want to read somethign else while it loads, it will just make them extremely pissed off (it used to do that to me anyway, when porn sites did it) and it took nearly 2 minutes to load a short text description of the game, when i saw the loading time go from 1% up to 2% without skipping any numbers, i was expecting a movie, or at least something animated, the "gallery" section of it is highly stupid also. One thing i did like though, was the theme song being under a megabyte, i thought there was some 'unwritten rule' on the internet that all official game/film sites must shut out and alienate anyone not using at least 256k broadband...

There's a thread over on Echoing the Sound and apparently alot of people believe that the artist who did the theme song is in fact, Tool. Thinking about it and listening to their song Lateralus, it does sound a lot like their guitar riffs, and the drumming and bass in the beginning most definitely sounds like something they'd do. I had heard they were supposed to contrinbute a track, apparently this is it (there was also a link where this track was mentioned in their discography on a website but I failed to copy it to post it here, sorry).

I don't know what to think of the intro song sample.
One one hand, I like metal a lot and this is the style of metal I always wanted to be in a Doom game (to bring contrast to the ambient tracks I also wanted to be in), but on the other hand, this is supposed to be the theme song.
Listen to Doom1's theme song (has a sort of 'shock' value and sounds "doomy"), the Doom 2 theme song (starts slowly and sinister then booms loudly with a "Doom"-like sound) and Doom64's evil and sinister theme song.

Doom 3's theme song is totally different and doesn't really cover Doom 3's horror theme all that well and that disappoints me a bit. The sample is awesome on its own, but I really hope the sample gives a vague enough image of the entire song (I would want it to start out sinister and creepy, then explode in a really evil sounding tune that eventually turns into metal).

As for the site, despite the flaws mentioned above (annoying to people who don't know alt+tab, slow load times, etc.), it's pretty cool to browse. I've seen and read most of what it has to offer and there's nothing new, but damn, those sounds are sche-weet.

Ensure that the Quake CD is in the drive first, then run the game.
When the demo starts, you hear this horrible (hehe), grinding music in the background that sounds incredibly fake (imo).

Yeah, there's about as much blasphemy about it as when people call PC Doom's music "fruity".

Man i really hate to say it, but that theme music sucks. I almost sounds like Incubus or P.O.D. I hope this nu-metal sounding garbage doesnt flood the creepy doom settings. Trent you SUCK man!

It wasn't Trent that wrote it. Extremely old news. :)

You're right though -- it truly sounds like POD. That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard it -- oh, so lame.

You have to give the band (or whoever/whatever) SOME credit though for using mixed meter. That's one plus on the song, so far.

Hopefully the rest of it won't sound like utterly gay crap.

"The song sounds wicked to me. Better than Quake 1 intro."

Man are you serious?!?!The NIN Quake intro sounds way better than this crap. The NIN intro had a more bleaker and darker edge than the sample doom3 intro. The D3 intro sounds like some MTV Bulls+++. Plus NIN fit the environment.

Several other insulting or condescending remarks that I'm too lazy to quote

How about we quit the namecalling and just deal with the fact that people have different musical tastes?

Some people love the D3 theme sample, others hate it, some can't decide if they're happy with it (me) and I hate Quake's theme song - there's nothing you can do about people's tastes other than pissing them off.

Either way, it's just an extremely short sample of the theme song - we don't have much of a clue how the rest of the theme will sound and neither do we have a clue when and where it will play and if it will fit in there or not.
We also don't know what the rest of the sound track will be like. In any event, you can rest assured that there will be an option to turn off the music if you don't like it - why wouldn't they include one after they've included it in every single game they made which had music in it?
