Freeze, followed by complete darkness.

Here goes:
I used to be playing for an hour or more and suddenly it would freeze for 30 seconds - when it started again all except a few textures were lit, and there was no dynamic light. Flashlight didnt work etc.
Simple restart of doom3 fixed this - however now it happens every minute. Does anyone have this problem or know how to solve it?
