Scripting Question

Hey everyone -

I already know Java and C++ but I want to learn how to script. These questions might sound sorta dumb because I'm only just looking into it, but bear with me.

1.) How is it different from writing a regular program / using a compiler?

2.) What would be a good language to start scripting in if you wanted to do scripting for something like Doom 3?

Doom3's scripts don't need to be compiled.

Doom3's scripting language would be the best thing to start learning in that case. Open up your pak000.pk4 in Winrar or Winzip and have a look around the /scripts subdirectory to see how id did things.
