Is there any way to make DB2 setup bypass the installation of the .NET runtimes, and just install the base application?

No! Microsoft NET Framework is 100% very important for Doom Builder!

Visit Microsoft website for downloading Microsoft NET Framework version 2 or later. Thank you!

Thanks for the tip. Visit http://www.ubuntu.com/ and http://www.winehq.org/ to find out why I might want to do this.

Exactly my point. However, you can install .net in some capacity with the winetricks script. Now all I need is to be able to run the setup program!

Did you try to use one of the unofficial builds at http://svn.drdteam.org/doombuilder2/ ? They don't come with the installer. You'll probably also need to install SlimDX somehow. You should use the one that comes with DB2, I think it will not work with the latest from the SlimDX page.

So that's DB2 running on Wine? Looks like the most important part doesn't render ;( I wonder how well it would work with Mono, but then the SlimDX stuff probably needed to be rewritten.

Yeah, that's DB2 r1250 in Wine 1.1.42 with .NET installed via winetricks as the MS installer package freezes. The SlimDX installer just works so no dramas there.

I've run other Mono software (Jodwin's C# WAD Launcher) via Mono, though you are right, DB2 complains that the SlimDX library is missing.
