How can you get the Doom E1 sky in Doom2? I know it was done in Southern Cross and if anyone could tell me how, I'd be very thankful.

1. get it out of doom.wad (patch name "sky1")
2. put it in your custom .wad (texture name "sky1", "sky2" or "sky3")

Followimg up on what Boris said, you can use a utility such as WinTex, XWE, or DeepSea to open up doom.wad and extract the E1 sky patch (bitmap format). Then use the utility to open up your doom2 wad and insert the patch as Boris describes.

3. Rename the patch RSKY1 (or 2 or 3 for the other episodes)

I used to use it, but really, it is obsolete these days.

What you say? Both XWE and DeePsea are a damn sight easier than Wintex.

Turn your self upside down, punt and then hope it works - that's Wintex.

Choose the job you want to do, do it and you are done. That's XWE or DeePsea. And they actually work.

WOW, this post is old! I just made an Episode 1 sky wad for all the brown sky haters and green mountain lovers, so anyone can copy this wad, save their maps over the copy and have an awesome green mountain sky.
I just searched "E1 Sky Doom wad" to check if anyone else had done the same, and... well... yeah.

Here it is. https://www.mediafire.com/?8mu9c8g3uabp9ia

Or use sargebaldy's resource wad, which is even older than this thread.
