14 bytes is an unusual number to see at the beginning of a file. The first 12 bytes written are PWAD (4), #entries(4) and dirstart(4), so maybe that's not what it said?
This type of error says there was a file problem. For example, you ran out of disk space. A file allocation table error - usually caused by shutting off your computer (or a crash) and not running scandisk when you reboot.
In any event, make sure you don't have the level open in any other program, that includes the game.
