Okay, this is somewhat of an odd question, but what is the best way to design a spiral staircase? I know some editors have an auto-create function, but I'm using Doombuilder.

unless you use some funky teleports, i think a spiral staircase would quickly become subject to the whole sector-above-sector thing.

I think the best way perhaps would be to use really dense 2d grate objects alond a central pillar. Just make a bunch around it, then offset the z heights. Or as I said before make a bunch of really funky teleports.

You could use teleports, and you can also use ZDoom Transfer Heights. But the teleports are probably the best way to go. I'd take a peek at HACX's silent teleports if you're making it in DOOM(2).EXE.

Whoa, no, I didn't need any funky room-over-room stuff, I just wanted to know a simple way to make a clean sort-of-curved staircase, if one exists. Of course, I'm getting the feeling that it'll just have to be a bunch of guess-and-check, but if anyone knows a better method, please help.

Another way can be to come up with a plan for building the column that would be the center of the spiral (I use this as a base) and build around it.

I usually auto-build a staircase and wrap it round, leaving a hole in the middle that eventually becomes the pillar.

I did it with specialist textures and bridge things. Works nicely, too. (albeit a pain to set up)

Spiral 180 degrees one way, then have a space and go the other way. Appears as the only sort of spiral stairs the normal Doom engine can build I think.

You'll have to get on an 8 or 4 grid to make it look right.
