Need help with testing the map

When I tried to test my own map it just played on the regular map on doom 2, i even put the temp map on the custom wad file but it kept playing the map that is listed on the Episode/Level. What should I do to play my map?

second: What is a "temp map"?
Third: what source port are you using? Are you trying to run you map on the original doom2.exe under dos?
If so you have to type:
doom2 -file yourname.wad
to play it.
