Mechadon Posted October 30, 2009 I'm digging the starbrown textures. Those are great :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Butts Posted October 30, 2009 I got inspired to do my own, despite having no ability as a texture artist. It sucks, and can be improved, and it won't work in doom, but I liked the idea of this door grunge-ified. 0 Share this post Link to post
Super Jamie Posted October 30, 2009 It does look good actually. Post as PNG tho, JPG compression makes the image pretty much useless. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted October 31, 2009 I kinda hate the original version of that texture for just about everything except the giant UAC logo. I think to save that door you have to ditch or rematerialize every thing about it except for that logo. 0 Share this post Link to post
Swec Posted November 1, 2009 Just asking if there is any different SPE_BRX that can be added for more variations? if so url? and if not. i would be very very happie is someone would take some time to make some others SPE_BRX that fits in whit the 'original' SPE_BRX. 0 Share this post Link to post
Super Jamie Posted November 1, 2009 Where is SPE_BRX from? It's not in doom.wad or doom2.wad. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fletcher` Posted November 1, 2009 EarthQuake said:XWE and a copy of doompal.png work really well for recolors too, especially if you want to retain as much color information as possible. It can be a bit tricky if you got two colors that seem to form one color, but with a little luck, you can get some really good results. For most of my recolor works, I found that making separate palettes with single color ranges much easier to work with. This way I can select a part i want to be a certain color and just convert it much more easily. (this is especially useful for sprites that you may want to use color translations as well later on) 0 Share this post Link to post

For reason reason though, Photoshop never liked transforming one color like blue into something like red; it only worked for really close hues. I haven't tried this with CS2 though, so it's something I'll have to play with again. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted November 1, 2009 A method that works well: save the image as an XPM file, open it with a text editor, and change directly the palette indices. Then save, reload in your image editing tool, and save back in a more normal format. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted November 1, 2009 Here's your STARBGRN texture. :P It looks a tiny bit ugly when tiled horizontally so I'll hopefully have a 128x128 version up soon. Mind if I use bits from the STARBROWN textures (which are awesome :P) you uploaded? EDIT: Here's a slightly better (IMO) version. And here's a 128x128 variant based off the STARBROWN texture. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted November 2, 2009 Hey not bad Jimmy :D I like the second one the best. 0 Share this post Link to post
Super Jamie Posted November 2, 2009 They are awesome Jimmy! I've opened the images in GIMP and I still find it hard to believe they conform to the Doom palette. Well done! 0 Share this post Link to post

Jimmy Posted November 2, 2009 Here are the final 6 textures. Hope you like. :) EDIT: Oops. Looks like there's some brightness inconsistencies. X( I'll see if I can get those sorted. EDIT EDIT: Sorted! They all conform to the Doom palette now. Enjoy! :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted November 2, 2009 Jimmy91 said:Here are the final 6 textures. Hope you like. :) The difference between these two is subtle. Here's three 128x128 variations. Since I'm lazy, you'll have to cut the pic in three parts yourself. I think it makes the tiling less noticeable. I used your "tiny bit ugly" and "slightly better" versions as a base, plus the damage panels. The first two parts are made kinda like STARTAN3. 0 Share this post Link to post

Whoo Posted November 3, 2009 After having a discussion over TNT 2 textures, 40oz pointed me to this thread, and said some of the textures in here would fit well. So far, the textures are indeed very good. I'm fine with using 40oz's textures, but I'd like to make sure it's fine with everyone else who made some textures before using them in TNT 2. I've been looking for a decent set of textures, and a texture artist for a while. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted November 3, 2009 Fine by me. :) Though you might as well use the edits Gez made. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted December 4, 2009 I posted these last weekend over at Zdoom but I hadn't noticed this thread until Gez pointed it out. So, someone may have a use for these. Do with them as you see fit. I think 3 or 4 of the metal flats may have originally been by Nick Baker but the rest of the edits are mine, or at least they are just copy/paste/clone efforts based on id originals that I did. 0 Share this post Link to post
Super Jamie Posted December 4, 2009 They are really nice, thanks for sharing! 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted December 4, 2009 No problem. I hope someone uses them. :) 3 more And the original thread on Zdoom if anyone is interested. Not that it really gives any more info. http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=24251&p=470738 0 Share this post Link to post
