Since you have visited REALM667 and had a look around the site, and hopefully downloaded some monster, weapon, artifact wads, I would imagine that your curiosity caused you to open said wads in SLADE3 to see what makes them tick.
To create your own sprites you will need a graphics app:
Paint.net, Gimp are freeware
Paint Shop Pro by Corel can be had for ca $60,00
Photoshop, well, it is too expensive for casual use.
As I mentioned in http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthr...903#post1043903 , the ZDoom Forum is the most active forum discussing and presenting sprites.
