wesleyjohnson Posted May 1, 2013 I downloaded Slade3 in a 7z file. Neither of my Linux can open the file. I have 7z tools on an old Win98 system that is not setup right now. My question is: Is there anything in these recent Slade3 releases that would be useful on Linux ?? Or is a windows executable ? (blah) The web site does not really say what is in the file (exe, sources ??), only that it is the latest developmental bug fix, use at your own risk. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted May 1, 2013 The SVN builds are all for Windows; except for ZDoom which also has Mac OS builds (less frequently updated). For Linux, there is this, though; provided your distro is compatible with Debian packages. 0 Share this post Link to post
wesleyjohnson Posted May 2, 2013 Thank you. No need to bother with it right now then. I don't suppose any of the Slade, Zdoom stuff will run on a Win98 system. I am limited to DoomLegacy, PrBoom, and Edge. I have failed at compiling ZDoom, Vavoom, Eternity, Slade, etc... I run Slackware. If I cannot compile it, it generally will not install. The more complicated, or if it requires libraries, the less likely. The only thing I have been able to do with Debian stuff is pick it apart for clues. A few Red Hat rpm have proven usable. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted May 2, 2013 wesleyjohnson said:EternityOn using Ubuntu, I was able to download and install SDL, SDL_mixer and SDL_net 1.2-dev (each) from the distro repository (I used the Software Centre GUI), then I downloaded Eternity's source code from the Internet and build it using 'cmake' and 'make'. Make sure you checkout the latest Eternity SVN builds, David Hill and James Haley have recently fixed CMakeLists.txt to produce a correct makefile. It also compiled when I downloaded the latest SDL 1.2 sources from their webpages, but I didn't get any sound that way; Slackware might be different though. 0 Share this post Link to post

However, the startup screen will look like garbage because Win98 fails at unicode but that's not really a problem. 0 Share this post Link to post
wesleyjohnson Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks. I do have SDL working as DoomLegacy uses it. Noted: download latest Eternity. If I cannot get ZDoom to run native on Linux, I wonder about running it under DosBox or Dosemu. But I still would need FMOD.... I think it was the absolute inability to find a workable FMOD for Linux. I have already tried 3 downloads. Getting FMOD on any of my machines is one of those unfinished jobs I have. Thanks. As it is not an immediate concern, I will get to these later. 0 Share this post Link to post

Is the problem compiling or running? I know some people have run ZDoom/Skulltag on Slackware before. 0 Share this post Link to post
