Fanatic Posted May 28, 2003 That rat bastard! One thing to consider why no one caught onto it is the time when it was released. The Internet wasn't blossomed into the warez playland it is now, and music theft wasn't nearly as rampid (or as big a deal). And back then, most people has a crappy 8bit sound card with no WAV capabilities, so it all sounded like bleeps and bloops. That doesn't make it right, but that might be an explanation as to why he got away with it back then. I'm glad to say my stuff is all original though. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
insertwackynamehere Posted May 28, 2003 Maybe he got permission, or the bands thought it was cool and didn't mind. 0 Share this post Link to post

As for E2M6, listen to the Aliens soundtrack, one of the two tracks with "Newt" in the name (maybe it was Going After Newt, I don't recall exactly.) 0 Share this post Link to post

Turn your speakers, but that might not help you hear any better, since your head is stuck so far up your ass. 0 Share this post Link to post

Disorder Posted June 2, 2003 Well, I knew for a long time now that most of the songs were inspired by famous metalsongs or have been completely stolen. I have to say Bobby did a very good job at stealing. All the songs fit well. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tormentor667 Posted June 3, 2003 This is absolutely freaky :D Some of the midis sound almost exactly like their corresponding mp3s *g* 0 Share this post Link to post

Sharessa Posted June 4, 2003 Waterworld (the music to E1M4 in Duke 3d) sounds very similar to KMFDM - Virus (Dub). Not sure if this is a coincidence or what. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nanami Posted June 4, 2003 Weird. I usually turn off Doom music and listen to my playlist. All the songs listed on the Doom Cover page are on my playlist too. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted June 4, 2003 Why is there a link to the forums in your forum signature Nanami? 0 Share this post Link to post

DooMBoy Posted June 5, 2003 I can honestly say I don't care, since I usually don't listen to any music at all while Dooming. 0 Share this post Link to post

Shaviro Posted June 8, 2003 1. Bobby isn't to blame for the 'inspired music'. Romero asked him to do nothing but cover music and handed him Pantera, AiC, Black Sabbath and AC/DC cd's. (No metallica) 2. I don't think you can call any of the songs ripoffs. (except perhaps map23) Bobby just took the best parts of the metal songs and based his song off of that. 3. IMO, Bobby's versions of the songs are much better than the original versions. 4. What I think of your list: E1M1: No. I think this song was inspired by Slayer: Behind the crooked cross near the end. (Yes I know it's E3M3 too). E1M4: Inspired, yes. Ripoff? Not at all. E2M1: Same as with E1M4. E2M3: I don't really see the similarity. E3M1: Indeed a cover. E3M3: Obviously a cover. E3M8: Wtf? I don't hear any similarity between the two. Map07: One of the more obvious ones. Map10: Bobby took the best part of the song and transformed it into his own. Map18: Same as with Map10 Map23: The song which comes closest to a ripoff. Bobby's version is just 100 times better, though ;) (no singing) Map25: Same as with Map10 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted June 8, 2003 Bobby isn't to blame for the 'inspired music'. Romero asked him to do nothing but cover music and handed him Pantera, AiC, Black Sabbath and AC/DC cd's. (No metallica)I've never heard anything about Romero asking him to do cover music. Got a source? From the music page on Doomworld:The id Software development team originally wanted me to do nothing but metal songs for DOOM.The covers were, judging from that statement, Bobby's own initiative. In any case, those songs are obvious rip-offs and there's really no excuse for them. It's possible to compose inspired music without stealing sequences. 0 Share this post Link to post

Fredrik Posted June 8, 2003 Fine, then Romero and Bobby Prince are both guilty for this. 0 Share this post Link to post
