I had an idea about this, but thought it would be scoffed at here, so I didn't post it. What is the idea?, you ask?
Sneaking through the shadows. Not all the time- that would make Doom seem more like Thief.
I think it's a good idea, because if you've got low health, and low ammo, and there's a big, bad Baron of Hell stomping his way towards you through the shadows, you should be able to hide in them. That way, the Baron wouldn't see you, and your life would have been saved....temporarily at least.
Whatdaya think?

Seriously, I think the way to fix that problem is to have the monsters actually walking around in set patterns, not clustering around the wall or door that is nearest to your location. That way, you could hide out in a room and not have to worry about the fifty-or-so demons that will have gathered outside the room by the time you're done.


Or just have them break down the doors.
