Reisal Posted April 22, 2004 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27234&item=3091096898&rd=1 Tell me this is fucking wrong, no credit given whatsoever to anyone in this compilation. Various members at the Doomsday section at ND are fuming over this asshole putting a source port and a bunch of FREE contributions to the engine (high res textures/flats, models, DED files, etc) without proper credit. The wanker's site has a log-in screen btw. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted April 22, 2004 Hmm, this clearly seems to imply that he's warezing copies the games in one CD for money. Time to report it directly to id Software and Activision. I mean, if he wants to package source hacks in a CD and distribute them for money, it all depends on the licenses given with the add-ons, but that seems to be the actual games there... 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted April 22, 2004 The Doomsday engine is licensed under the GPL, and I hope this idiot gets busted. 0 Share this post Link to post

Reisal Posted April 22, 2004 How do I report it without registering an account for Ebay? I need a friggan CC/debit card # to complete registration 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted April 22, 2004 Yeah, I noticed that. Someone who's a user there should do it. Already e-mailed Activision myself, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted April 22, 2004 You may want to report this one as well. We know this guy... it's Semetary from Doomwadstation. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted April 22, 2004 Heh, he's even trying to sell a collection of porno wads:2.) I am old enough wads - this is a collection of maps created by a variety of authors for Doom and Doom2 that are meant to be played by the older crowd of doomers. 0 Share this post Link to post
LogicDeLuxe Posted April 22, 2004 I wonder which gun model is he using here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3088713913&indexURL=2&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting I looks much better that those I have on my hard disc. Where can I download it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted April 22, 2004 That's the Abbs pack pistol. Personally, I hate his version of the pistol. I think it comes with Doomsday or is somewhere on the DHQ site. You may not wanna bother cause DaniJ is slowly revamping every model and skin for the jDRP. 0 Share this post Link to post
Brad_tilf Posted April 22, 2004 What's your problem, Mr. Chris? There is nothing on those cd's that is copyrighted material, so why do you care? 0 Share this post Link to post
LogicDeLuxe Posted April 22, 2004 Brad_tilf said:There is nothing on those cd's that is copyrighted materialSure, it is. It states "There are 10 Doom games in the collection", where none of them can run without the original wad files. According to the list there are 4 of them. If he would sell this collection (without the wad files in question) as an add-on package, it would be a different thing. Funny, the home page he mentions in the discription is restricted. 0 Share this post Link to post

I'm pretty sure the guy who designed that took the necessary precautions to make sure that nothing copyrighted was in the disks. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted April 22, 2004 You can sell copyrighted things on Ebay, provided you own that copyrighted thing. Example: you can sell your copy of Ultimate Doom. But you cannot copy your Ultimate Doom CD and start selling those copies because then you are infringing on id's copyright. The add-ons sold by that guy and by Semetary are not their property. They do not own it; they do not have permission to make copies and distribute those for profit. Most add-ons come with a text file explicitly forbidding reselling or distributing the files for profit; and if they don't there's always id's original TOA on user-created files. 0 Share this post Link to post
Brad_tilf Posted April 22, 2004 You MAY distribute this WAD, provided you include this file, with no modifications. You may distribute this file in any electronic format (BBS, Diskette, CD, etc) as long as you include this file intact. 0 Share this post Link to post

Brad_tilf Posted April 22, 2004 It amazes me that some of you are all worked up over some wad collections. Don't you have anything better to do? 0 Share this post Link to post
Job Posted April 22, 2004 Brad_tilf said:It amazes me that some of you are all worked up over some wad collections. Don't you have anything better to do? It's not hard to figure out. The idea of someone making money off of another person's free-to-download intellectual property is infuriating. What I don't understand is that someone who's a fan enough of Doom to buy a cd like that off of eBay should know where to find the materials online for free. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted April 22, 2004 Brad_tilf said:It amazes me that some of you are all worked up over some wad collections. Don't you have anything better to do? People should at least ASK the authors of the stuff before they should sell it. Any why would he wanna see the wads when you can just find them on the idgames ftp for free? I even bet that punk with the 1000s of wads on CDs for sale has one or two of my older wads. Here is what skyjake (from his ND post on the original thread that started there) has to say about these discoveries: Sigh. There is no shortage of swindlers on the Internet, always ready to grab a quick buck thanks to people's ignorance. :( I guess what we need is to just get the word out better, so those people interested in classic Doom will know that these amazing resources are available for free. The engine itself can be sold (thanks to the GNU GPL). Interestingly, the game modules are so heavily based on the original source that they are still bound by the original id/Raven license, which prohibits any kind of commercial gain. It would also be a very good thing if the community organized an official "full" distribution of Doomsday, with all the resource packs and a better installer (perhaps NSIS, as was suggested). The resulting package would be large, but it would be possible to host it on SourceForge. (Of course, providing the included resources are licensed as freely distributable.) If the components were also available individually (on SourceForge) users (new and old alike) would not have such a hard time locating the stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
LogicDeLuxe Posted April 22, 2004 Mr. Chris said:People should at least ASK the authors of the stuff before they should sell it.It depends on the copyright section of the text. In most cases, it isn't required at all. For example, if it is like the one quoted above, you can spead it, even for money if you find an idiot paying for it. In 1995 when internet connections were rare, I bought a cd (much cheaper than this one) which was basically a idgames directory mirror of the ftp cd-rom archive. If I had to download all that stuff for myself, it probably had cost me a lot more. So offering a wad collections makes sence. However, nowadays, such a cd wouldn't pay out anymore, I guess. At least, one should read those sections when about planning to sell the stuff, as in fact, there are some cases, where it is strictly forbidden to sell them. Also someone spending that much money couldn't really be a Doom fan. A true fan would already have most of it, or at least knows where to download it (the fan made stuff, not the original wad files). 0 Share this post Link to post
Brad_tilf Posted April 22, 2004 Do you guys remember when Walnut Creek used to take those uploaded maps and put them on cd? How is that different? 0 Share this post Link to post

Piezo Posted April 22, 2004 myk said:Time to report it directly to id Software and Activision. Activision doesn't care, as I bought warezed copies of the four doom games off of ebay and emailed the company. I got no reply, so I just emailed the kid to take them back, he refunded me, and I sent them back. I never heard from Activision. 0 Share this post Link to post
