This isn't something even remotely hard to put together.

Try playing and reviewing anything from 20-50 maps in a week (I got 82 once) and say that again. Then add the selection and processing of screenies together with writing the reviews and uploading the whole thing and you have a lot of work.

I did it for nearly 3 years and loved most of it, but once I got a job I found that I simply didn't have the time anymore.

Are the map title, author name, engine, game type, screenshot icons automatically written? Or should I write a complete review containing all necessary data?

It would be foolish to include all of that in the database and also require reviewers to put it in their review. Don't do it.

Source port required and mode of play (single player, deathmatch, etc.) would be nice, though.

Nice to see the progress for a new system is in full gear.

Separate "notes" field added. You can edit it even if your review is approved. Put play mode, screenshots, source port, etc. there. If you really want to be nice, and already have approved reviews, going back and updating them would make me happy.

I'm brainstorming a system that allows people with a forums account to "claim" WADs for reviewing and then submit a review within a certain timeframe. Don't hold your breath, I haven't even started writing anything and it probably won't be done until the end of the month.

/newstuff Drafting. Random forum regulars are selected and linked to a wad via private message that they must indefinitely review for the sake of existence of /newstuff. I think that would be really cool, as a person reviewing one wad at a time is a hell of a lot easier than one person reviewing five months of wads.

This is great but when I hit "revise review" after putting things in the notes field it gives me an error.

Maybe this system should also provide a way to flag certain entries for removal from the "to be reviewed" list without submitting a review. For example, 15158 has since been upgraded and is no longer hosted, but is still in the list of wads needing review.

I'd like to quickly revise my CIF3 review, but for some reason the text isn't changeable. I seem to be logged in correctly.

Would it be too much to ask that the page use the Doomworld colour scheme?

If it's already been approved, a review can't be edited, to keep people from putting "LOL COCKS" in before it gets published. Should this be changed?

This is new - the flamewars usually erupt after the reviews are published. :-)

@Bloodshedder - maybe the Claimant field should be removed from the page if there are going to be arguments over who's reviewing/reviewed what.

Not really. If you don't know who is reviewing it, you could end up getting someone who may have a bias opinion on the wad (hate the person, helped with the wad, ect.)

I'm not suggesting anonymous reviews - just the removal of that field from the webpage. The Doomworld staff know who the reviewer's are since their ID is logged in a database beside the wads they claim/review.
I expect the reviewers will be identified when the /newstuff chronicles are published at which point any conflicts of interest or author bashing should be easy to spot.

I see no need to remove the column from public view. Every review has to go through me, AND if you think there might be some sort of conflict of interest, tell me about it BEFORE it gets published.

The reviewer's name should have to be posted. My two cents

I was wondering whether the inclusion of each reviewer's name is automated in the process...

Um... even if it wasn't in the listing of reviews, it would still be on the final product.

I think this thread should be stickied, or at least some similar thread advertising this new system. Currently, Newstuff doesn't appear to be a hassle anymore, Now I can just pick out a wad in my spare time and review when I have nothing better to do.

I think the new review system for the newstuff should be more prominent. I created a news story abou tthe new system, maybe the story needs to be edited to point to a page that gives specific instructions about the Newstuff review process. Either way, I think the new system warrants a news article... possibly top story.

I was also thinking an instructions page would make things easier for people trying the system. It could be linked from the top of the list saying: Hello , nice to see you. If you are unsure of how to proceed, read this.

As for prominence, the news submission seems like a good heads up to me, but otherwise it is already very prominent, producing the regular top story of the site, and the site is thus heavily oriented towards WADs... if a link to the system were added on front page it would make sense to also encourage other stuff; adding a "submit wad reviews" link, but also for example a "submit demos" link directly to the demos forum or the thread that explains what the demos forums is (where players can directly attach their recordings).

I'll make a help page and do these other things, eventually. Right now there's a blurb about the system at the end of TNC. Did anyone see that?

I saw it, and that's definitely a good place to put a blurb. I imagine that most people interested in reviewing could figure out how to do it through there. I'm intrigued by Myk's "submit demos here" idea, though, and a link of that sort would also be good to see.

A help page? Please, It took me a little less than 30 seconds to figure out how it works. I didn't even read all the posts in this thread. I dont think this system has the potential to become even more simple than it is even if bloodshedder tried.
