Post your Doom picture! [post in Part 2 instead]

Im considering upping the brightness one level. I dont think the sky is too bright though. Clearly the sun has already gone down, so everything should be just shadows.

And I have added some lighted spots around the area for contrast :)

I agree with Mark.. You could try increasing the light level by something like 24 on each row of sectors, from the peak.

That looks considerably less dramatic, imo. I really like how the mountain is just a dark silhouette in reaver's original shot, no unnecessary detail showing from a distance.

Lutz: Those shots look quite a lot like your Inferno maps, woo!

Fuck, it's so hard to make a decent hell section nowadays, especially when only using stock textures.




I'll do a lot more to this later, when my overall health gets better, although DBRAIN probably won't look good as a lavafall here IMO.

Put some layer cliffs on those walls, so you get some change in that repetitive texturing.

Not a bad start. But it looks so unfinished. There's tons of things you can do to make the room pop better: to start, break up the large lava and cave wall surfaces. Add interesting features like lava falls, ledges with secrets or enemies, recesses with torches, etc. Or you could make pillars of a contrasting rock texture. For the ceiling, you could add a skylight or something similar for both detail and light contrast. For the floor I would suggest making islands of REDROCK or something similar. You dont have to take my advice but I think adding architectural and lighting detail could spice up the room.

Yeah it's quite unfinished. And it looks like it won't be finished for awhile as long as my depression holds. Been feeling really terrible in my head ever since the beginning of December.

I might take some advice here, to help with this, but it will likely take months to finish. Also, this is supposed to be an old-school type of map. I'm trying to avoid some of the crazier gimmicks for this one.

Sorry, I can't do this. I'm using only stock textures for this map and DBRAIN irritates me with how it flows upwards and all. Really do wish that there was actually a lavafall for Doom 2 textures.

Made a new PW map last night. Pretty standard theme. Going to have a custom sky this time, but I have no idea what kind of sky yet. Green?

I'm getting coffee break flashbacks, only grittier! Very nice and chunky; good, low light; nice ceiling detail; doortrak on the far left looks too wide, though (pet peeve).

I'd stick with that white sky if I were you. The contrast between the dark and gritty textures and the sky sets the perfect mood. I think it looks brilliant as it is.

Another screenshot from my revamp of Flay the Obscene. Original one on the left, new one on the right... well, duh! :) I'm trying not to mess too much with the layout and architecture, but since it's meant to be played backwards and there was some strange red key logic in the original, I have had to add and change some things to make it flow better.
