Maze protip: Don't make it too obscure, mazes featured heavily in 94/95 maps before people realised they were essentially shit.

If you study the E1M2 "maze" you'll actually see it's a fairly large irregularly-shaped room with two irregularly-shaped cutouts in the middle.

It's less a "maze" like you'd find in a child's puzzle book and more a pair of circular hallways with a few obviously-dead-end side passages.

I love good classic play so I'm keen to see how this ends up overall :)

MAP05 of ToP has a PSX-flavoured version of something similar. It's much smaller than E1M2's maze, though.

@Antroid: Any chance of a sprite set? :P

You sure? The acs is a bit of a mess and it's very specific. Everything has to be properly defined (all the weapons and ammo are separate cases). I'd like to talk to you about your dialog scripts while we're at it. That'd get me back on track with my heretic project.

Light wise, i got that covered. As for the other thing, its pretty much what i should have meant, its basically a room with a few dead end, nothing like a maze and nothing that any doomer should have trouble navigating through. The room contain 3 switches so based from that you can guess what will be the main goal of the room.

Whatever happened to the mazes that were scary and dangerous because you never knew when you'd meet a killer?

Answer: the Automap, the monster grunts and the pathfinding worse than Wolf3d ruined them!

FWIW, the Cyberdemon maze in Hell Revealed MAP27 blew my mind anyway. A modified version of Plutonia MAP11 to include pinky Demons and monster-operable doors was also still good.

Ha, that would be a great enemy. Looks freaky too, with all the bolts in his head. Too bad i can't sprite and have to model and render stuff when i want new enemies. That would be too much effort for a silly thing such as this. :(

@SuperJamie
Heh, thanks %)

@alterworldruler

I mentioned this before but the screenshots I've seen of that wad really give me a Daikatana vibe. I don't mean that as a bad thing either, because I always liked the look of Daikatana. Something about the combination of the green HUD and the opengl rendering really does that for me.

This is pretty kickass. It looks like one of those mid-90s FPS games. The low-res HUD and the chunky-but-filtered textures make me think this screenshot would be right at home on a Nintendo 64. Any more info on this project?

I sorta meant if you'd be interested in creating the HUD graphics. :P My status bar is already there, but using some crappy placeholder graphics that I'm not satisfied with. Would you perhaps be able to jazz it up a bit?

As for my dialog scripts, you have my permission to use them if you need them. :) I'll also be glad to help you out in case you need them explained (they are rather clusterfucky, I know :/).

You said the Strife-type dialogues did not work anymore... Have you contacted Graf and/or Randy about it so that they can check it?

The mid-90s look is intentional. Xenus 3 is well, a TC/standalone stuff for gzdoom (only). I can't say too much at the moment because it's barely starting up. As far as I can figure, there will be 7 acts of story, it won't end at points you think it would. Completely new weapon arsenal, design, monsters (yet to be sprited, recoded D2 monsters for that purpose) and music. It's a very ambitious project and will take me a while however i'm not aiming for uber details, it just needs to look clean, neat and consistent in order to work. Gameplay? It's a mix of Quake II, Doom and Strife. It has hubs, lots of gun action, objectives, npcs etc. so yeah. That's all I can tell (Are you that guy who commented on Jack Darx's theme? : D)

Since I have currently lost interest on my Heretic map(for now) I decided to start(or restart in my case) my little ep2 project. Just started making E2M1 so far and I'm considering doing 100% Vanilla Doom compatible.

Not yet. I haven't even touched the mod since the latest version came out.

Yep, considering that its my favorite episode so it will have some similarities to the original but completely different layout and design in my own way.

I decided to have a fun war between hundreds of friendly and enemy Pain Elementals. The resulting horde of spawned Lost Souls is always fun to see.
