Ok so this is about what music cd's/mp3's etc you listen to when you don't listen to the onboard soundtrack that Doom comes with. Even editing wise could be intresting to hear your choices.

For me. Back in 1995 it was mostly some techno/hardcore I listened to. I was not a big fan of Doom & Doom2's music. Nowdays I prefer to tune into some internet radio stations.

I have quite eclectic tastes. Anything good from about 1954 to about 2008 and a few bits and pieces outside that too.

BTW, this should probably be in "Everything Else".

pretty much anything that doesn't suck or is played on the radio. like nickelback, those (2?) songs that they always play over and over...

"this is how, you remiiiind me of who I rea-lly am..." pisses me off.

He seems to be saying music listened to while playing the games.

Nothing, personally. I like the in-game music and feel external recordings (especially anything with singing) are out of place.

This does remind me, though, that sometimes interference causes my speakers to play some radio in the background, often with classical music. The volume is very low, although I can hear it sometimes if there isn't much action in the game and the game music is of the more quite type. This usually prompts me to minimize the game or hit "pause" and move the speaker cables a bit till the unwanted music is gone.

While playing I have no music for most of the time, when you have heard all doom midi's for like an million times you prefer silence. And any other music is too distracting cause I start listening to the music and concentrate less on my game :p

Since I'm not the picky type, I just listen to whatever the author picked out. If they didn't add any music to their WAD, then I pick out a MIDI I like from a music WAD and play that instead so as not to have to listen to the MAP01 music. I only listen to non-Doom music when I'm testing Zdoom programming or mapping, in which case I listen to practically all genres (jazz, classical, rock, country, hip hop, you name it.)

Video game music. Mostly stuff from the Metal Slug series, Classic Mega Man series, Mega Man X series, and Mega Man ZX series. I sometimes use the midis from Memento Mori, Memento Mori 2, or Requiem while playing Doom.

I'll usually listen to the in-game music of custom wads, given they have custom music to listen too. Occasionally I'll listen to the original Doom music while playing, but when I don't I listen to pretty much my normal stuff...which includes anything but Country that has a beat I like.

For pwads without custom musics, I play with a music wad at the same time : TVR! with reqmus.wad isn't so bad.

I generally play with the music turned off, or the default midis at low volume. If I do play doom with music, it's usually kmfdm, slayer, slipknot. Metal, industrial, what have you. But I generally prefer to play with no music, it distracts me.

I have collected a large collection of music and if a WAD's music isn't to my liking I redefine it with something from that collection.

For me it's either the in-game music or my playlist of instrumentals - mostly classical.

@myk - buy some short ferrite rods (as used in AM receivers) from your local hobby electronics store - one for each speaker lead and the amplifier line-in lead. Wrap as many turns of lead as will fit in a single layer around each rod and secure with insulation tape.
That should at least minimise your interference woes.

I used to have a stereo that received a Russian radio station in the speakers. I never sorted it out but, to be fair, I never tried that hard either.

You can also use an album of Lustmord, it's the same style.

Honestly? I don't. I just can't listen to "proper" music and play computer games at the same time. So the only music I listen to is Doom's MIDI soundtrack. It seems the most appropriate choice, anyway.

I'm guilty of compiling a list of oggs created from the Hell Revealed 2 midis using timidity and eawpats, and then listening to that while playing other Doom levels. (ie, not from hr2).

Wasn't intentional the first time it happened, but it proved to have an interesting effect on the feel of the levels I was playing.

The ingame music's volume is turned low when I play single player and coop games, off during deathmatch games. I tried playing a game with a playlist running on the background, but that just sorta throws me off.

Kinda depends on my mood. Usually I'll just listen to the regular music but sometimes I'll throw in something else. (usually during deathmatch or a map I've played several times)

Oh meh, nothing like chillaxing to Gentle Giant while shooting things in the face. It may seem no good combination, but it works.

I've said this because I was remembering a CC2 map with a Pink Floyd music ('One of these days'), it was cool to listen but out of place.

I should mention that the Doom 64 music is great for all versions of Doom as well. Its even more creepy than the playstation ambient.

This sounds really weird, but maybe I ought to give it a try some day. King Crimson's Fracture might be pretty great in the right map.
