I first played Doom in the late 90's as an Amiga source port. Having to use chunky-to-planar graphics conversion made for lousy framerates so I abandoned the game for a few years until my boss asked me to investigate LAN-compatible games as a possible "team building" activity. Only time in my working life I was paid to play computer games. While it flopped as a "team building" activity (too many females in the office) Doom became a permanent resident on my home PC.

I started collecting wads and loitering around Doomworld in 2002 - T/nC was (and remains) a regular port of call. Only recently emerged from the shadows and registered on the forums. I'm nearly 54 years young (can anyone top that?) and live in Hobart, Australia.

I haven't played Doom regularly since I switched to Mac last year. But until then it was pretty much the only game I ever played.

uhhhhhhhhh

23 year old Male from the Cambridgeshire Fens in England (around the northern area of the blob on the eastern side). I remember the hype in games magazines when Doom first came out, but our family has never been very rich, and at that time we where, well, broke, to be quite honest. Had a Megadrive though and got insanely jelous when the SNES "got" Doom (well, kind of).
A friend of mine did have PC, and his dad got the shareware not long after it came out, thanks to somebody he worked with who had this amazing new "internet" thing. I guess i must have been about 9 at the time, and the chance of actually getting to play this amazing game i had been reading about was literally jaw-dropping. Though we basically just mucked around in E1 with the cheats on BFGing imps.

Later in around '95 or '96 we won a Playstation off a packet of Cheese Strings and the first game i got for it was Doom. Likewise for the PC when we got one in 1999. I discovered Doomworld (amongst other sites like Doomsphere) shortly afterwards, in fact it was probably the first thing i looked for after "Tifa FF7 Naked". A friend had told me there was "28,000 different sites with levels on" on the internet and i fancied some. I think i first joined the DW forums in early 2001, though didnt visit much at first, then i left for ages after the "new" forums where started and finally came back in... 2003?

started playing around 95-96 (played with the doom95 executable), was really won over when source ports began to emerge. I just started "playing" doom again within the last year, though its been my preferred modding platform since 98 or so.

How many of you started playing Doom when you were 3 years old? I wouldn't have even known how to work a computer when I was 3. T_T

You'd be surprised how easily it is for kids to get the concept of pressing up to walk forward, left and right to turn, control to shoot, and space to open doors and use switches. However opening the game from the dos prompt and putting in the cheats had to be done by my older brothers.

I found out about this site a long time ago, around the age of ten. I found it when I was first getting into google, I had no idea there was a community that still worked with doom, or even a way to make maps for it. I remember checking this website frequently to gaze at all the screenshots of the weekly /newstuffs. I didn't even know it had a forums page for 4 years, I tried to join in when I was 14 but my email address didnt get the confirmation email and I didn't know how to make a second email adress at the time. But yeah, here I am now.

I'm 20 and from southern Texas. I've been playing since it came out on PC, although when Columbine happened I didn't play it for a couple of years.
First checked out Doomworld around 2003/4. It was also around that time I was starting to use source ports and use a map editor. Also started buying Doom and Doom 3 related merchandise to expand a collection although that's come to a halt now.

I'm 19 from the east coast, and I've been playing since I was 6. I played deus vult II today (that cathedral level still has yet to be completed by me.)

I'm Ralphis. I'm from Philadelphia. I am unarguably the best Doom multiplayer of all time.
