Gosh, I just don't know what to say to wish him the best. Get well soon just seems so hollow with what is facing him. I just can not imagine what that choice must have been like.

Espi, We are pullin' for ya.

I can't adequately state how saddened I am by this news. Get well soon Espi. You're in my thoughts.

Its a big loss to lose his mapping, but it would be a bigger loss to lose him as a person. best of luck Espi, our prayers are with you

Terrible news. If Espi can't map again, I see it as a shame not only because he was really a great designer (Suspended in Dusk is by far one of my all-time favorite mapsets), but because I know that as a mapper, if it's something you really enjoy, it's hard to stay away from.

Sorry to hear about this. Get well soon, Espi.

Hopefully this is the closest thing we'll have to a "The Sky May Be" segment in the Cacowards this year.

Damn, I don't even know what to say to this beyond what I said already. To be in solidarity with Espi, I tried using only one arm for a single hour and it was a difficult task. I can't even comprehend how Espi must feel right now. I just thought I'd return to say that I'm keeping Espi in my thoughts and prayers that everything works out somehow.

Jesus, that's terrible!

I'm sorry Espi. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose an arm :(

I donīt know this person or have any knowledge of his DooM-work, but this wonīt prevent me from expressing empathy of his misfortunate and absolutely ghastly situation...

Bounce back Espi!

Best wishes - Mike.

One arm's better than dead.

EDIT: he may map with one hand too.
EDIT2: as for play, he may use keys. Even though his future maps will be easier due to no way 4 him to cstrafe, there's always Nightmare! skill for us endusers. Not to forget the posibility of having (ro)bots do the task where there's no hand. If I were him and knew of no chance, I'd cut my arm immediately just to be saved.

Here's an update on Espi's condition:
    1. He has come out of surgery, which appears to have been a complete success.
    2. He is in the process of healing, and expects that the surgical wound will be healed in about a month.
    3. After that he will look at prosthetic devices, and undergo rehabilitation.
    4. Even with prosthesis he expects to be able to perform only the most basic of daily functions (i.e., he will lack fine motor skills).

The good news is that he sounded positive, and is being supported by his family and friends.

He will undoubtedly be touched by the outpouring of good wishes from the DooM community. Keep them coming.

all jokes aside, we are still wishing him a speedy recovery

Then grab this file (which is a very impressive set of maps by a number of authors) and pay particular attention to map27 - Espi's map. It is an absolutely stunning piece of Doom modding.

Ah, I'm very happy to hear that his surgery went well! It does kinda suck that he had to lose his arm in the process though...but hey, atleast he still has his other arm. And, for me anyways, I didn't find it too difficult to map with one arm...well, given it was with my right [good] arm :p

But I'm sure mapping is the least of his worries right now. I continue to wish him the best of luck during his healing/rehabilitation process!

for a short while? Who said he'd give up entirely? Espi doesn't give up that easily.

That's good to hear. It's amazing how much an optimistic attitude can make a difference in difficult times. And it is excellent that the surgery succeeded. As before, I hope the recovery goes well.

Bit late in my well wishes to be sure, but here they are all the same:

Sorry Espi, hope things turn out as best they can all things considered. Glad the operation went smoothly and successfully. I don't know about your personal situation, and what can be done about it, but I have a cousin who lost an arm in a skiing accident when he was 8, and has had a prosthetic arm ever since. Aside from the Dr. No style habit of wearing gloves everywhere, and of course long sleeves (which he actually pulls off to look pretty awesome most of the time), you can scarcely tell that he even has a prosthetic arm. That being said it was his left arm, and he wasn't a southpaw, but still. Get well soon!

I really feel for Espi. I wish him well and hope that all his future life adventures turn out to be greater and more fulfilling then the previous ever were... In other words, I hope better times are ahead for him.

I'm glad to see his operation was successful and hope that he will make a quick recovery, though of course this is obviously something that can never be properly "recovered" from. Hopefully we'll hear more soon.

The happiest man I've ever met was a homeless guy in downtown Vancouver. The guy was a shorty, and had both arms missing at the elbows. The dude refused to take money, and instead sat with his synthesizer, and played music (including "Axel F") for everyone and just chatted about how grateful he was to be alive.

Every time I hear of something tragic happening to someone I think of that guy and the sheer positive outlook he had on life and wanting nothing more than to pass it on to others.

Espi man, I wish you all the best and am glad to hear everything went well. Hope you have a speedy heal, and am glad to hear you are well supported. Take it easy duder, and keep your chin up.
