WTF do you mean. Discs of Repulsions are as common as the flechettes. They aren't rare. It's quite usual that I can go right through a disc without picking it.

Same, I found way more disks of repulsion than I could use.

I've only gone through Hexen all the way once, though, and I think it was on medium difficulty. Maybe that has something to do with it?

If I recall correctly, version 1.0 of Hexen had a bug where the Disc of Repulsion and the Chaos Device had their names swapped... maybe that's where this is coming from. I remember Discs all over the place, but the Device was fairly rare.

Always play Hexen on skill 5. Otherwise you end up having more than enough items. The game is easy under skill levels lower than 5.

And as with all -fast skill levels, remember to make a new game with skill 5 before proceeding with the loadgame.

This is not the case with Strife. In there, the Bloodbath difficulty is a joke. It's designed to work like Doom's Nightmare, but since most enemies there disappear, only the annoying ceiling turrets will respawn. The -fast part only affects speeds and durations, not reaction times, and as usual it is cancelled after a later loadgame out-of-game, especially because you can't start a new game with skill 5 to preserve -fast rules as you do in other games. On top of it, ammo gets doubled. So in Strife, skill 5 is easier than skill 4. You may die easily due to the machinegun speed of acolytes, but only until you reload the game off a later session of Strife. End of story.

Has anyone found an important use for the Banishment Device? Also does it have a good use against other players (be it dm or coop)? I haven't found anything substantial... I merely try and defeat the offenders instead.

Theoretically, a banishment-device hit followed instantly by a chaos device could telefrag your opponent. Or do those devices have different teleport destinations?

I tested the behavior of the Banishment Device once, and it tries to send the banished one to a deathmatch start first, and to the sp/coop starts only if there are no deathmatch starts. So unless you're playing DM or on a map that has no DM starts, it probably won't happen. (Even in these cases, I doubt it's likely.)

In the first hub, you'll find precisely 1 disc of repulsion, and that's if you get to the secret map. After that, you'll start seeing them in the second hub (for instance, the wavy swamp floor room in Darkmere). They only get more common from there.

As for the banishment device, if you use it at close range, you'll only hit one monster, but it can hit more monsters from farther away. After a few moments, that one ring will spread out into several rings in a long line, each one capable of removing a target.

Finally, in deathmatch, on a rather busy map, try this: Find a nice, quiet place and use a dark servant, then banish the maulotaur. It will go to a random spot, and possibly right next to an unsuspecting victim on the other side of the map. If you have a bunch of both, you could cause quite a bit of havoc.

All the times I've "egged" a friend from his flying position and then slammed a pair into his soft supple chicken body with the crossbow.

I love a lot of items in Heretic. The time bomb of the ancients are great when you're being chased.
Tome of power is just plain awesome.

But the egg, :D.

BTW; not sure if everyone knows. But the disc of repulsion can be used to literary crush your opponents against a wall. (you just need a bunch of them to do any serious injury) And that's awesome too. :D

Or just find an impassable/block monster 2 sided line and blast the monsters there. It will almost always kill them real quick.

Yeah, that evil little trick in the video Ichor linked is another reason I like the Cleric's flechette. Does that trick work in vanilla or was it ZDoom only?

That's actually JHexen in the video, but yes, it works on vanilla.
