Here's my Facebook "fan" page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/James...ic/146509134549

Also, I just finished another midi. Again, not for anything in particular*, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Spectral Cybernetics
Spectral.mp3 (<- new link)

Might possibly require some extension, but until then, enjoy! I think you'll find it's heavily Mark Klem-influenced. :P

(*Sorry! I'll get to work on your requests soon! D:)

EDIT 14:20 GMT: Re-uploaded. Whoops.

Hatshepsut is up - a weird Egyptian-esque tune in 5/8 time. :)

Also, if anyone's interested, a new little side-project of mine is rewriting the Death Rally soundtrack in MIDI form. This will be a tricky undertaking but I believe it to be possible. :P

Another also: I've been uploading MP3s of my songs to SpeedyShare, the links to which have now all expired. :/ I want to give them a new home on Last.fm, but the uploader appears to be broken. Are there any other good artist hosting websites out there?

Love the new song! It would have gone well in that yellow brick map instead of the awful Spanish hat dance the guy used :/

I don't know Death Rally that well but the new songs sound convincingly 90s. Is trying to remake someone else's music a good learning experience? Like you see all the little tricks they use and expand your own knowledge and music making ability at the same time?

I would say it is. I've gotta say that I love Purple Motion's knack for arpeggios, and back when I first played this game, I wondered what I was really hearing. :P

Those of you who wanted the MP3s can now listen to them on VibeCat! This is a lovely little site (but seemingly not so well-known, only 968 artists on it) that cuts out the BS in the uploading/organising process, although it might be a little too simple to fulfill everybody's preferences - I don't believe the website provides a facility to download them. However, I'll upload them to my filespace on Phenomer when time permits.

I've already posted this but my MP3s' new home is now on SoundClick. If you've been on there in the last week or so you'll have seen a couple of new tracks, including "Warsword" and "Rusty Nails".

These are now to be used in the Speed of Doom project, so be respectful to Joshy and wait until it's out before re-using them. :P

That Warsword is a really nice tune. Obivous remix of Donna To The Rescue in your own style, resulting in a more dynamic and useful track. Well done!

Eh? It's "Excalibur" from ROTT. :P (That is a Bobby Prince tune, tho.)

Awesome midis Jimmy91, I might use one of these in my map for the pcorf megawad project. I do find that the synth line in Torque really reminds of Replica by Fear Factory. What are your inspirations?

Mark Klem, David Shaw, and Stewboy are people whose MIDIs I'm constantly listening to, so I guess you could say they're my inspirations. :P

Check out Tempered Steel. I got inspired to write a Mark Klem-esque piece of music after listening to some more of his stuff. :P

Holy damn, I've been behind. :x I've released a TON of songs since Tempered Steel. They are (in chronological order since Tempered Steel):

Gates of Infinity (4:56)
Cruithne (4:43)
Built to Kill (5:09)
Collapsing Point (4:08)
Funky Stars (FluidR remake) (2:20)
Inverse Engineering (4:01)
Interloper (4:10)
Adrenaline in the Blood (5:09)
Trinitrotoluene (3:28)
The Ace of Sevens (4:37)
Departure (3:33)
Settlement (3:47)

Departure.mid
Settlement.mid
(These two are remixes of songs from Chex Quest 3. :P)

Those of you who like these might want to friend/subscribe to my new-ish YouTube channel. That's usually the first to get updated once a new tune gets finished.

A full MP3 listing is also now on the front page.

---

For those of you wondering, I'm releasing certain songs as MP3 alone because I'm not sure whether to release them as MIDIs or not - these songs are original, and I don't often release them with any specific Doom project in mind, plus I think my MP3 converter makes them sound much better anyway, so I just release them in the way I think sounds best.

I also want to keep the ones intended for a specific WIP Doom project as secret until the project's release. However, I kinda feel bad for not updating my MIDI collection in ages, especially since you guys may want to use the new MIDIs in your projects.

Erm, I hope I'm making sense. :S

(Incidentally, the CQ3 remixes have been released as such because a guy on the CQ fan forums wanted to find some voices to render the original MIDI(s) in, so I uploaded those two per his request.)

So, should I release more new songs as the original MIDIs in future?

I always love seeing the MIDI versions. As great as the MP3's sound, they're not quite as universally useful for Dooming purposes.

Smashing stuff, as always. ;)

I vote for releasing the midi versions as well. The MP3s certainly are nice but I'm sure many people appreciate that certain aesthetic sound when played through something like Doom. Not to mention there's always a need for new music when making maps. I know I certainly appreciate being able to use some of your midi tracks for my own maps :D

Okey-dokey, that seems to settle it. :D I'll make sure to release the MIDIs alongside the MP3s in future. Whatever songs I compose specifically for an unreleased project I will put under the "Project Submissions" section on the first post. :)

To be honest, I no longer see the absolute importance in being secretive about music. More MIDIs to enjoy is always better, right? :P

EDIT: Ok, LOTS of new stuff was just revealed/uploaded. :D Check it out: http://jimmy.phenomer.net/music-files/

Just to clarify:
  • "-wip" suffix obviously means work in progress. MIDI is liable to change, or it may possibly not even be finished.
  • Prefixes "hcx2", "sup", "tnt2", and "trm" indicate MIDIs which are intended for specific projects which haven't been released yet. (They are HacX 2.0, Supplice, TNT2: Revolution, and Trauma.) Some of these haven't been sent directly to the project leader(s) yet, and some of them are still WIP. However, they're all up there.

Will update first post with all the new additions tomorrow. :)

Well, depending on the project, you may want to keep those ones hidden until release. We're mostly referring to the ones you mp3-ize.

Up to you, I suppose. Also, Ace of Sevens is the coolest thing ever.

Oh yea, I think this is the best way to go as well. I may not have been very clear in my post about that. I was referring more to the tracks you make that really have no intended use from the get-go.

I was thinking about this, too. I'm personally don't think being able to listen to these tracks matters a great deal (but it might to some people). Using these specifically-tailored MIDIs before the project is completed, however, I won't allow to happen.

Just to clarify, I have uploaded most of the ones I kept hidden, but I will explicitly state that they shouldn't be used outside the intended project.

I will remove any of those MIDIs (they're all in a /projects folder) if they go against the will of the project manager(s). I don't want to cause a lot of shock and horror here. :P

( The way this was set up before was messy, by the way. ALL the hidden midis were in the same passworded folder. Not good. :< )
