The next big update has been completed.

-Two new weapons.
-over 15 new areas.
-some new sounds.
-Graphics overhaul in some areas, and new nukage tiles.
-New music
-Corpses work, but they're erratic at times.
-Some new dialogue and storyline features are on the way, including another new character. However, this is still in development

-NOTE: In the newest areas, there are no monster battles. Puzzles have not been implemented yet, but saving has. I strongly urge not to save in the newest areas to keep compatibility with the real version when finished!

The Story So Far-

The United Aerospace Corporation is the largest corporate entity known to man today.
With unlimited funds, and the ability to mold areas into habitable land with their
Terraformer units, the UAC colonizes worlds far beyond our own. They hope, as well,
to establish a connection to whatever life is out there, and if it exceeds our own.

Months after Terraformer units were sent to the UAC's newly-colonized desert-moon
Tei Tenga, they uncovered something astounding: it appeared to be a portal of some
sort. Another was found some time later at the southern pole of the moon's Lightside.
The areas seem to be equidistant from each other, and from the looks of them, they
seemed to be gateways to other dimensions! Attempts were made to open these
portals, to almost no avail, until the unexpected happened...

They never saw it coming. As of a few short hours ago, the UAC's
main dimensional gateways on both sides of the Tei Tenga moon burst open after a short
portal-spawning experiment, and with its release, sent hordes upon hordes of deadly
creatures into the farthest reaches of the moon.

They got what was coming to them. The idea of opening a gateway to another dimension was
an idea too uncomprehensible for one man alone. Their discovery only brought them death.
Now only few pockets of existence remain on the moon's surface as an invasion begins.

Some of these noted survivors are located in the still-operational facilities that hold
ground on the moon's surface, as well as the standing few cities on the moon. The survivors
knew one thing: the only safe and sane place now was behind the trigger of a gun.

Among these survivors was the infamous Alpha Team, whom only hours earlier were sitting in
the moon's Lightside hangar playing a game of cards, before the invasion struck...---

The story for this game was revised after a brief meeting with Tom Hall, who made the original story for Doom, on which this game is based on. The new storyline sequence is: Evil Unleashed, Through Hell and Back, Knee Deep in the Dead.

Some game a buddy of mine came up with.

We'd made it a while back, but to tell the truth, the game sucked.
It got VERY mixed reviews, and it kinda fell flat.

It centered around a Nano-type robot. There was never enough to present other than a rough demo.

We had originally named the game after the Megadeth song "Mechanix" and made a little midi for the song to add. The only other midi was one of "Electric Eye".

Basically, you were a soldier in a group of mercenaries called the "Mechanix", with a mindset on eliminating any kind of Nanobot opposition in Old NYC when an experimental Nano-human is killed in a sewer system, and the spores of the 'bot infect the water supply.

You had 3 different team alignments to choose from, which were: "The civil Defense Unit", which is basically a program to escort citizens out of the quarantined area. Your team is one of other survivors.

Another one of these teams you could join was the "Mechanix" mercenary group, who as you know, plans to eradicate any Nano-life out there.

Finally, you could side with the Nano-humans themselves, and destroy any organic opposition you found.

But, since little programming knowledge was known at the time for the engine, we couldn't implement these classes properly.

It WAS supposed to be an RPG-type game, run on the same engine as Doom RPG, but then it fell flat. And besides, we have Doom: EU to work on.

It was supposed to be our first commercial game. Maybe after Doom: EU, we'll get back to work on Mechanix.

Hope that answers your question.

Progress is being made. Since I'm getting to know the engine a bit more, more features will be added to the game. Here are some of the ones in progress:

- Doomguy will have "Swimming" sprites when moving through water, slime, lava, the like. Slime and Lava with a Radiation Suit only.

- Each of the heroes will have different sprites for the different weapons they acquire and arm. For example: You arm a BFG9000, you see a BFG9000 in battle, unlike the version now, where it shows the player with a rifle, like in the original Doom.

- Some Doom Bible elements will be added. Some of them may have effects, others, maybe not. I'm not sure yet.

-----------------

OTHER GOOD NEWS:

Doom RPG: Evil Unleashed is being fetured (Again!) in an online magazine called "HamsterSpeak", a magazine affiliated with the use of the engine that makes Doom RPG, (Which is shareware, called the OHRRPGCE). We expect even better reviews this time around.

-----------------

EVEN BETTER NEWS:

The graphics overhaul on Doom RPG is almost done. I'll be uploading that when it's done!

Okay, I'm going on a bit of a rough path to get this thing done.

Now, I'm not sure about you guys, but I've been getting numerous questions about whether or not there's gonna be anime/manga-like characters put into the game, since most RPG games usually have some kind of art in that style.

Post on this thread if you either A: Want to keep with the graphics that are already in it,

or

b: add the anime/manga-like graphics to it. If i do so, I will be needing artists for the task. Not a big one, just one frame of each enemy, possibly looking in the --> right direction. The marines/heroes/etc, will be facing the left direction. I will also require facial portrait and full-body portrait graphics for the game. One for each character.

If someone is willing to help me out with this, it will be very much appreciated. Already, this game is getting quite popular, with in total over 300 downloads since the first version released.

Also, this game is being featured in an indie-game mag again. If you want your name featured in it, I'll need some artists. I've already noted Tormentor667, DoomHero85, Tom Hall, and Vader for helping me out with this.

If at least one person can help me, much appreciated.

Your artwork is perfectly fine, and not every RPG needs anime-style art. In fact, I don't think that style would suit Doom very well. People are probably asking because they're so used to seeing it everywhere. I say just go with whatever you feel fits the game better.

Hmm. you got a point there. But I'm not meaning like making everything Anime-like, just like storyline screens and character portraits. Other than that, solid Doom graphics. Oh, and thanks for the comments on the graphics.

Edit: lemme rephrase that. I originally wanted to, but It'd make sense just making storylines and portraits. Other than that, everything is Doom GFX.

Never mind about the artists. That's taken care of. Doom RPG just got an excellent review in HS magazine!

Read the article here!

I think adding anime style crap in this game is a bad idea.It will definitely clash with the DOOM atmosphere, looking incredibly stupid. So no,I do not agree with this idea at all.

That, Killer, is why I said "NEVER MIND".

anyway, like the article said, there's a few bugs in it.

The article also made the mistake of renaming the "Greater Imp"
to a Cyberdemon. The guy mustn't have played Doom in a while.

Anyway, I do have those elements I'd promised implemented into the game.

In-battle pictures now change when weapon loadouts change.

'Swimming' sprites have been added for travel through deep Lava/Water/Slime/Nukage, some of these elements can only be swam through with a protective suit, however.

New features of this latest bugfix / update include:

- In-game battle pictures change when you have either a shotgun, rifle, or knife-type weapon. Since this is in testing, there are no other sprites except for these, and only Flynn's sprite changes.

- Facial sprite bug fixed in all areas.

-Game-breaking "stun" 400+ second bug fixed.

If you ever feel like it, some of the concept art for Doom RPG, Mechanix, and the Alone in the Dark 2D remake, among other art, is right here:

A lot of stuff there. Some's stupid, some's good.
Check out the progress amde from day one of the Doom RPG project!

This thing is sweet. I really like the alpha stuff in there.

The only bug I found was that when I got the red guy his weapon didn't work, so for the first fight I had to keep using items for him until i could equip something else. Which reminds me, you can't equip weapons in combat.

Can't wait to see more of this!

Glad you like it. There's still more bring made, and as a matter of fact, I just finished the Tei Tenga Darkside Anomaly not too long ago.

Also, you're meant to NOT change weapons in battle, unless you have a smaller, usable sidearm.

Also, the Character's abilities are usable in battle.

The red person is actually Lorelei Chen, one of the women from the Doom Bible. I'm actually getting more done with her, and making a proper portrait for her.

Also, Soon I'm putting storyline screens for the intro and exit, like what was to happen in the alphas. My artist should be finishing up sometime soon, as I already have Flynn's (The Player) portrait ready, along with some others.

Well, hello fellow Doomers. I've just made a few updates to the game and just about 100 maps are in play for the game so far. However, this is not all of them.

So far, the following still has to be done:

- The other half of the episode, from command control to the Computer Station.

- More coding for game-specific functions, which include the following:

"3D" floors (still top-down view)
Varying light levels
Animated Tiles
Enemies
Cutscenes
Animated battle sequences
-------------

As for that, it is actually quite simple to do in the game, so it won't take long at all to code in.

So far, the farthest playable area is to the end of the Toxin Refinery, and into the next cutscene.

-------------

But, Considering this is quite a large bump, I will provide pictures to those who are still skeptical on this project. Considering the free time on my hands, as well as my practiced artwork, all areas have that finely polished look to them. Some areas actually give you chills, but still retains all the blood-boiling excitement it had when the last demo was released. Here are the pics:

http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/278/f/9/underpass_by_thespazztikone-d4bxki1.png
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/276/e/d/anomaly_entrance_by_thespazztikone-d4bquem.png
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/281/a/0/containment_area_ii_by_thespazztikone-d4c84kk.png

That last pic is NOT the containment area it once was. I have modeled the map after the map from the Alphas which was a storage area.

I will release more pics soon. Don't lose out on this! Until next time...

Hello ev'ryone. It's me again with some important news on the game:

Now I know what you're thinking from the sound of this message: "Oh no, it's been cancelled again!"

You'd be completely wrong.

A load of improvements have been made to the game.

There are now fully working light variations inside the game, and realistic ones, I might add.

More new enemies have been inserted into the game, and require more strategy to overcome.

A few new weapons are being added.

The Toxin refinery, though fully mapped as before, is now fully functional. This includes its keys, puzzles, hubs, enemies, lights, etc.

Tomorrow, when I get the time, I WILL upload a video right here, as well as the "Post your own Doom video" thread of the progress, from beginning to its current point. Sadly, there will not be a download following it, since I am not releasing another version till it's half-done.

"What? It's not even HALF DONE?!?" You say?

Well, lemme tell ya, I got some news for you:

- over 90 maps filled to the brim with all the helish adversaries from the real game... so far.

- a more complicated arsenal filled with the most deadly weaponry available, including weapons with... or without ammo. pick your poison.

- Puzzles that are satisfying to solve, and some come with deadly reward.

- Lighting and unique battle system design that will leave you wanting more blood, more gore, and more ways to leave your enemies biting the bullet.

So keep waiting. Keep watching. Remain prepared.

Goodnight all -- Sid "Thespazztikone" Tyler

Saved games, at this point, can only be loaded after the game has been quit, then loaded from the startup screen. That, or when you die, the game will proceed to the opening screen after the 'game over' screen. from there, when you press enter, you will see a list of saved games. click the one most recent save.

I'm sure it can't be that hard to add a "Load" menu...as it is now it's pretty dumb. Also, I reached the part where you have to fight the greater imp and beat him.
Stuff I don't like:
-the plasma rifle is very weak,dealing about the same damage as one berserk knife strike or two nailboard strikes (Lorelei attacks twice with it);
-in one of the buildings located outside (I think the one on the down-right) there is a section of wall you can go through, and then end on the black space. Will try to post a screenshot/a more accuarate description later.

Thanks for pointing those out. I'm still trying to work on both weapon and monster strengths. I'm going to see about how to install a load menu from the game, oh as for that wall: no idea it was unmapped. I'll get to fixing that shortly. But you must realize that copy of the game is at least a month and a half old.

The new version I'm working on now fixes a LOT of the problems you're talking about, including weapon strength and monster strength.

Oh, and dude, the reason that the plasma rifle is weak is because it's NOT a plasma rifle, it's a laser rifle. At it's current state, it's in a weakened state. once you find a scope for it (working on now), it'll fire with increased accuracy, and since attacks are much more accurate, the damage count will also be higher. Don't bother pointing anything out about the unfinished Toxin Refinery part, as it clearly states in the game that as of now it is unfinished.

Other than the dumb 'Loading' thing, how is it? So far, I see that you've only pointed out the negative, probably for some criticism, but so far, of all the hundreds of downloads, I've received great reviews and 2 indie magazine entries. surely you can find something to be happy about. Now I need my sleep.

I generally point out the things that need fixed/I don't like in my posts and sometimes I forget about the compliments. Of course the work you've done is fantastic, and creating a full game is amazing on its own. The fact that most of the sprites are original is a huge bonus as well. Also, I really like the battle system.
Hmm,I forgot to state another bug. Sometimes, corpses stay in the air instead of on the ground (only saw it with zombiemen). Also, I don't really agree on the laser rifle. I mean, make it at least do twice the damage of berserk/2nailboard, else it's completely useless without a scope (unless it can damage more enemies, and I admit I haven't tested this aspect yet). Also, the stimpack is a pretty useless item. I mean,10 health isn't significant enough for anything but the first stage of the game...and even then not much. I suggest making it give 30-40 hp, but that's only my opinion

Alrighty then. I'll fix up those aspects of the game.
Stimpacks I guess'll go for about 25-50 HP, and I'll raise the Laser Rifle's attacking power.

Also, as of later today, around 4-ish, a version of the game will be on here, in video only, of the next few stages of the RPG that have been made, which also includes some newer, more realistic features.

But with all this being said, it'll take a little time trying to get the game fully made. I'd say with all the work done on it so far, this game is about a quarter-of-the-way finished.

The next demo will be released when it's half-done, like said above.

Until then... I hope to still have enough free time on my hands. I've had a lot lately... :D

Noticed an error in the credits list. It's not much, but it should be "or else this game would have never existed" and not "or else this game would never existed".
EDIT:And the unmapped wall isn't fixed yet.
EDIT2:The HP max near the 2 slime pits is bugged. No matter how many you take, it won't disappear.

No problem at all. The game is designed to still be backwards-compatible with old saves.

Anyway, the link on the first page has been updated. just download and replace the '.rpg' file.
