On the subject of real estate, I wonder if Lüt has finished redecorating his Tricks & Traps condo?

That would make for an interesting "For Sale or Rent" ad.

"Furnished condo available. Completely redecorated by previous owners. Free central heating that is always turned on. Some damage from eviction of previous owners."

In other words, Doomguy is Stephen Hawking - with bio-mechanical upgrades that allow him the use of his hands so he can battle the evil unleashed by the interstellar rift he caused by explaining the secrets of the universe in A Brief History of Time.

I do it all the time and I look for stuff that violates Romero's rule about always using a height variation before changing the floor texture. ;-)

I went looking for secrets, and I found my actual bathroom.

Lutz, thanks for sharing your story. That was beautiful.

Haha, no kidding. You can't have floors go from linoleum tile to carpet without one of those metal strips! That's just bad texture usage! I also have some walls in my apartment where the baseboards abruptly stop. Annoying...

Lots of times, and I've found several misalignments just about everywhere.

That, or he's actually riding a moped or an offroad bike (which would make his abnormal walking/running speeds plausible), and explain why his eyes aren't at normal height. He's damn good at driving it on/off stairs (even very steep ones), stopping on a dime and even driving it sideways (well, he's actually LOOKING sideways when strafing, the bike is still going straight), and thus needs to keep at least one hand on the handlebar all the time.

Oh and as a bonus, the Heretic source code does indeed contain a reference that 10 units are a "foot"'s worth in height", though horizontal/map units are still debatable (I side with those saying that 16 horizontal units give the most natural looking scale ;-)

P.S.: I have a fanfic in mind where the dark secret behind Doomguy's speed is explained once and for all. It may break some hearts, though.

I do actually see light in sectors sometimes. Particularly if a door is left open, as then it even fades like a Doom light source.

When I used to get bored during a lecture, I'd start to look around the room and wonder how I could render it in Doom. One of the rooms kind of reminded me of something I'd build in Doom... At least, the ceiling detail did.

Someone needs to make an Android/iOS app that takes a photo of a room, estimates depth/angles, approximates it as a Doom level portion, and then renders it back again, allowing to save it as a WAD.

In that case you'd end up with a lot of small levels as 64 pixels in the Doom world=8 feet in ours.

I found some of that brown sludge floor texture in my toilet. Guess I forgot to flush.

That would be awesome, except no camera takes photos in 360 degrees.

Not if you adopt the equally arbitrary but visually more appealing definition of 16 pixels per foot -afaik Sodaholic was the only one ever claiming that 8 px/ft figure, and even he admitted that stuff "looks indeed better/makes more sense with 16 px/ft", thus bullshitting his own claim. Go figure. And we are only talking about horizontal units here, while for vertical ones there is at least some weak evidence in the Heretic source code, which defines a "foot height" to be 10 units.

As for photos at 360 degrees...they can always be collaged from multiple shots.
