Oh yeah, I do that too. If I have the chaingun, I'll switch to the pistol and shoot once if the ammo count isn't even.

I do the same thing with the chainsaw/fist sometimes

In Brutal Doom, I reload my weapons a lot even when I don't need to, especially the Rocket Launcher.

Me too, I do it for everything and, I constantly "crack my knuckles" for no reason even without a Berserk.

I reload the weapons a lot too, I don't know why. Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably out of the fear that I'll shoot a weapon once and have to reload, which can be problematic in serious firefights.

1.) I keep selecting the Ultra-Violence skill setting for every new WAD that I launch. And I would only resort to a lower skill setting if I realize that the WAD doesn't have sufficient amounts of ammunition and/or healing items on Ultra-Violence.

2.) I keep pressing the quicksave button after every few kills, regardless of how tough or how easy a WAD plays for me. Just to be on the safe side. I hate starting things from scratch merely because of a blooper, no matter how small. (TBH, I'm actually like this in almost all the areas of life, not just in gaming.)

3.) I keep whoring the shotgun/supershotgun either until it runs out of shells or until the marine's health drops as low as somewhere between 10% and 20%. (Yes, I even approach Barons and Revenants and Mancubi with this weapon as my primary choice).

And that's about it, I think.

I shoot single zombiemen with the supershotgun, because sometimes I'm too lazy to switch to some other weapon.

I also hit quick save after every few kills, not that I ever really load, unless I totally screw up, die or if I was just trying something stupid/unusual/whatever. But I noticed that if I didn't quick save constantly, I got really stressed, even if I was doing just fine in the game. But that's not very nice, since I play Doom to relieve my stress, so I had to continue quick saving... Maybe there should be a game that's just about quick saving, or maybe I should just go to sleep now.

I tend to be really insistent on point-blank super shotting hell barons and hell knights, even though it can sometimes result in them smacking the shit out of me and costing me my life.

When I get the shotgun and the super one. After I kill monsters in front of me, I switch to the normal gun and shoot to make the shell ammo "even" and switch back to the super one. Yeah really I do that. :P

Omg, recently I am doing this too :)

When I have 200% 200% health and armor, I get really frustrated if I take damage, even just some minor scratch from a zombieman's bullet. But when I'm below 100% and have no armor, I push forward with complete disregard for taking damage. Eventually I either die/reload or find a berserk or megasphere.

I'm not kidding. I really and truly feel his 'itch'.

Has anyone else got that, or am I really weird?

I used to do something like this in real life. Occasionally I would sense that an inanimate object around me was uncomfortable, so I would have to fix it.

Now that I'm aware that Doomguy's back can get itchy I'll probably have to do the same thing as you.

For me it's the opposite. When I play with saves I'm always stressing over whether I just made the 'optimal' save, like I'm scared I'm going to save myself into an unwinnable situation, even when I'm at 199% health and almost full ammo.

I've always played the entire game holding shift to run. I'm not sure if you could use capslock in the official games but I know you can in all the source ports I've played.

I also never knew you could use period and comma to strafe, so I've always used ALT and still do. I remember thinking how awesome the controls were on PSX because the shoulder buttons let you strafe with only a single key. But I just can't play without my left pinky holding SHIFT and left thumb tapping ALT.

oh yes.

iirc i posted in response to someone else with the same habit how i used to play final doom in coop with another guy when i came out, and we were using savegames and reloaded the game because of some minor scratch. somehow we perceived stronger monsters as "worthy" enemies that didn't request a reload, but losing that 200/200 to something like an imp, no way ;)

I always wait until the E1M8 music is reaching its climax to step through the Phobos Anomaly.

I play everything on UV and rarely save to make it tense, and then when i die after either being stupid or the map being not fair enough to a first time player i often can't bring myself to start over from the very beginning and quit.
Also i play even the most vanilla wads with zdoom :D Although by default i have vertical mouselook off, sky stretching off and the compatibility options set to as doom-like as zdoom can do.

Playing a map.
Come up to a cyberdemon facing away from me.
Have a BFG and a perfect chance to shoot him and retreat, then rocket pelt.
Chainsaw him in the ass instead.
Without saving.

I sometimes get fancy when dodging and screw up

I do this whenever I come across a situation with alot of mancubi. I'll stand there trying to time all their fireballs and fuck up, even if there's convenient cover nearby. On the other hand, I mop the floor with groups of revenants, dodging in between their slow-ass, predictable missiles. If there's any other monsters around I'll get the giant conglomeration of missiles to slam into them once I'm done.
