I find the ZDoom population more realistic and less nerdy than Doomworld. They don't seem to suffer from the same self-pity as many Doomworlders, and actually act like people with careers who like trendy Doom ports. They also have knee-jerk reactions to things (especially within forums when I attack someone), which is very non-nerdy and realistic too.
This is something I've noticed over time. I would say that communities like the IDL are the furthest in that direction with Doomworld being a stark contrast. In general, this sort of personality contrast exists between hardcore multiplayer to hardcore single player communities too. I find the multiplayer side much more "normal", behaving how most people you'd meet in every day life would. Although I get along with plenty here at Doomworld, there is certainly a lot more hyperbolic personality going on.
